      Whats wrong with my carb

Today I tried to turn my car on and a lot of gas started to come out of this tube and flooded the carb. Why did this happen and how can I fix this.

It works but whats this for. I taped the float bowls with a hammer to free anything blocking the needles then I noticed this spring was very loose. I gave it a couple of turns but how much should I tighten it.

Did the accelerator pump collapse??? or did the float sink??

try pinching off the fuel line. start the car and run it untill it runs out of gas. then unpinch the line start the car. the pressure from the fuel should wash out any dirt or metal shavings from the needle and seat. might have to do it more than once. good luck hope this helps.

      70ptta,

There may have been some debris in your fuel that caused the float to stick, or as the fuel evaporated the float dropped, and stuck when you first cranked the engine. A few taps is probably all you needed, but removing the N&S assembly and cleaning it out would be a good idea.

The spring on the accelerator pump arm wouldn’t have anything to do with the fuel that was coming out of your vent tube. Either the spring was already loose and you just hadn’t noticed it, or when you tapped on the float bowl you knocked it down a little causing the clearance for the spring to change. Either way make sure that bowl screws are all tight. After that the proper adjustment on the spring is that there should be 0 lash or slack at idle, but an additional .025” or more movement at Wide Open Throttle.
