Without a doubt, this guy: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...ADME:B:EF:US:2

To a Pontiac guy, if there's anything worse than a Pontiac with a Chevy motor, its a Pontiac with a Dodge motor. On a 4x4 chassis.

he got more magazine coverage then than any two cars do today..and that's when many of the magazines had separate owners..I bought Matt and Debbie Hayes 88 T Bird @ Barrett Jackson..Unbelievable amount of fab work but as ugly as a mud fence..pink with graphics down the side..but had twin B&M blowers on a Windsor with handmade fuel injection..paid $15K for it..had to cost $150K in the day to build it. ALL the top cars in that era were UGLY..

Young, dumb, and full of cu*..I think the saying goes. My advice to young guys is find a mentor and listen to him. Young guys get taken advantage of by guys selling parts and doing repairs. Find out who you can trust and don't go to just anyone..90% of the guys out there are idiots. They will screw you and mess your stuff up, and sell you junk..Find someone who has been in the game for a long time and get his advice. We didn't have web sites or anything like this when I was young. This is a marvelous tool..It can keep you out of trouble..Use It..

Not a car builder, but Chris Bangle at BMW has put his stamp of approval on some of the ugliest cars on the road lately.... 7 series, Z4, X3 come to mind.

And of course, Bob Johnson, who built that POS Cuda. :bsjerk:

wasn't Dobbertin's Pontiac twin turbos pressuring a roots blower too..Like you can't blow the heads clean off with either one alone..can't remember if he had nitrous too...should have added the turboniques jet turbine rear end to it too...BTW does anyone remember in the late 60's the turbos and turbine axles by that company...You could take a chevelle and run in the tens with that RR alone..

      Pimp my Ride 4 sure

The triple-blower setup may ahve not been totally necessary, but it still had a major cool factor to it, so I take exception to Dobbertin being a "bad" builder. Besides, it worked.

I agree with previous posts that "Pimp My Ride" builders produced some of the most horrendous and useless garbage out there. If someone had had them pimp my car, I would have never forgiven them. The first (and last) show I saw, the show managed to destroy a perfectly respectable Firebird for some chick by installing a cappuchino machine, disco ball, and painting it a hideous purple.

It took me a while to warm up to "Overhaulin'" because I was afraid it would be a repeat of the "Pimp" travesty!

How about that Unique Whips dude..I can't stand to watch it long enough to see the finished product...he's got somebody snowed..if Howell ever hits the lottery, he'll get him a GRILL with some precious stones, a gold loggin chain and big medallion necklace, some gator shoes, big ol diamond encrusted watch, a pimp stick to help him balance and have the Whips guy bling him up a ride..Howell knows how to be cool, he just doesn't have the cheese to pull it off...

triple blower MIGHT not have been necessary??? had a major COOL factor to it?? It worked??? I see that kind of stuff and I figure the builder has more than one loose screw. It does have a cool factor..to someone that looks forward to watching Orange County Choppers and Pimp my Ride every week..like the dude with 6 or 8 turbos on the Tri 5..or that street rod with the exhaust headers that snaked all over the place..or better yet the purple Ford that just won the $20K at Starbird's show..different strokes is all I can say..

You got a point there. I'm all for function over form anyday. And I'm getting fed up with shows about guys cramming big-rig engines into harleys. Why don't we have a show that's all about practicality, stuff we could really learn from?
How about a coupla teams start with a budget (you pick the number), then they have to build their cars and race them against each other (you pick the course). May the best car (meaning builders) win!! Aftermarket companies, builders, sponsors, and your average (i.e. not RICH) viewer could all benefit immensely!!

      What do you think?

I'd ashamed to admit it, but I'd throw myself in the category for the 1st car I built.

My dad bought me a '60 VW Bug ragtop when I was 14 to start building so I could have a car in high school. I still have this car, and over all, its a nice car, EXCEPT the seat mounts. We used 4X4 lumber, bolted together, and through the floor. Don't think I'd drive it that way today!

5.13 GEAR WITH A 3.10 LOW..THAT'S A GRANNY GEAR IF I EVER HEARD OF ONE..I DON'T KNOW HOW TALL THE TIRES WERE BUT WITH ALL THAT GARBAGE ON THE MOTOR YOU'D THINK HE COULD PULL A LOT MORE GEAR THAN THAT. I'LL STICK WITH MY ASSESSMENT..I'LL AGREE HE WAS A GREAT FABRICATOR, BUT AS A BUILDER, HE HAD BEEN IN ONE TOO MANY SMOKE FILLED ROOMS..IF YOU PULLED INTO GOODGUYS COLUMBUS THIS YEAR WITH A SET-UP LIKE THAT, THEY'D LAUGH YOU OFF THE MAP.. THERE IS A HELLUVA DIFFERENCE IN A GREAT FABRICATOR AND A GREAT BUILDER. DON'T CONFUSE THE TWO.

I remember reading about the Dobbertin j2000 back in high school. In an era of pink 69 Camaros with wheel tubs cut out of 55 gal drums, his car was a refreshing change.

      I had a 3 tone pink pro street 69 camaro.full tube chassis,blown 540.Those where the days.

Dobbertin's J2000 was the "trickest"thing in it's day.i would say in his day was good, and ftarted alot of trends back then. There where alot of awesome cars bilt in the pro street day,That now we look at why did they do that, well I am sure in 20 yrs somebody will look back at some the cars built today and go that where they thinking.

There are so many car styles right now that are cool.
      Pro street
      Pro touring
      Old school
      Traditional
So on,so on and so on.

All these style's come and go.

Some day somebody will build a car tricker than Bob's Cuda, than Stielow's camaro's.

While the pro touring, pro street cars of today have funtion and driveabitily. It's all just a style
