New guy with 2nd Gen Pontiac

Hey guys, I've been lurking in the shadows around this site for awhile now. Liked what I saw, thought it was about time to register and introduce myself.

I have a 1980 SE WS-6 Trans Am with T-tops ("bandit"). It is a continual work in progress, and will probably never be "finished". Current mods: Big block Chevy Gen IV 402 (400 hp?), Hotchkis TVS suspension, Bilstein shocks, Competition Engineering Slide-link traction bars, and 5" Autometer Pro-Comp gauges. I recently sidelined my 15" snowflake rims in favor of 18" Boyd Coddington Junkyard Dogs with Nitto 555 rubber. I am in the final stages of installing a Keisler TKO-600 5-spd, since all real cars have 3 pedals. hahaha. Anyway I will let you know how it goes.

I currently live in Italy (yes, I brought the car over here from the U.S.), and my stated goal is not to beat, but to destroy these Porsches and BMW's.

Sorry--it had the POS 301 4-bbl. Actually it was a decent little motor and got me around for a couple years, but it was embarassing getting smoked by bone-stock Civics. I went to the BB chevy because I like their bullet-proofness. I had to convert the engine accessories (starter, alternator, fuel pump etc). from one side of the engine bay to the other to go from Pontiac to Chevy but it was worth it and a pretty easy swap. She went from slow to go overnight.

I have had a couple of different TH350 3-spds in it but I keep breaking them (they don't like to be manually shifted), so the slush-box has got to go. I got by on the stock front springs for a couple of years--it actually handled pretty decent, even with the extra 200 lb or so, but it's much better now with the Hotchkis stuff.

Anyway, a "restoration" was not an option for me with this car because 160 hp just doesn't cut it in my book.

      Paul

I cannot believe that with all the 2nd gens on this site, not one of these geeks took the name 'Bandit' until now.
