New TN law regarding NOS systems

I got this from another site i visit thought i would share it.

Just a heads up on a new traffic law regarding nitrous use in vehicles in Tennessee:

Effective July 1st, 2006, it is now a felony to have a nitrous system hooked up to your vehicle that is driven on the street. The law states that any vehicle stopped that has a nitrous system installed and has the line hooked to a supply (bottle), whether or not the system is armed or whether or not the bottle is full or empty. The driver can be charged with a felony for having a nitrous system in the car hooked up.

The law does not prohibit operating a tow vehicle or RV that is equipped to supply the engine with nitrous

I guess if you have a 12 second nitrous assisted cummins diesel you are ok.

I don't think it is a felony, but it is against the law

Crazy, I thought I heard along while ago that they would impound the car if it had NOS, but I think that might have been a scare tactic for the imports,

That was from you having it direct port injection to your nostrils.

Believe it or not, the main problem the authorities have with nitrous (don't call it NOS, that's so "The Fast & the Furious"!) is the actual bottle.

Have you every seen a nitrous bottle explosion? There were some pics of a Nissan Maxima that had a bottle mounted in the trunk, and was parked in the garage. When the bottle exploded from high heat exposure, the entire back of the car was GONE, as was a large chunk of garage, as well as most of the bedroom that was above the garage.

Anyway, the issue lies with the transportation of a pressurized bottle, and the (in)ability for DOT to regulate it.

Hey, its been over 100 deg here in Texas all week... I wouldn't want a bottle anywhere but in a cold dark corner of the garage...

      Just my 2 cents...

This law actually came about after a local homecoming queen was killed due to two guys drag racing in a busy section of town. Very unfortunate and sad but making nitrous a felony is IMO not going to do anything to stop the same type accidents from happening again.
Oh, and they also recently banned all flotation devices for kids in public pools too. Apparently a child, unsupervised I would guess, drowned because his tube held him upside down.
Seems theres alot in the works here in TN huh?

the burst disks should stop that from happening. the bottle is rated to around 10000 PSi or something crazy high like that whereas the burst disk is around 2-3k psi. thats either a disk failure or someone stacking the disks for some retarded reason. thats why we have blow down tubes so when the disk does burst to due excessive pressure it blows it out the car rather than inside. and FYI that pic of the maxima is the only pic i've seen where a bottle exploded.....whats nitrous doing on a maxima anyway?
