      New Olds Guy

Hey everybody, I am excited about joining this forum because at present my knowledge about suspension is limited at best. Anyway I have a 1972 Olds Cutlass S that I have owned for 8 years and have dumped more money into than I care to remember (but I am sure I am preaching to the choir!!). The body and interior are pretty much stock but I have done extensive work to the motor, exhaust, and rearend. Here is my laundry list:

      Engine:
      Type: ’72 Olds 350 Rocket (0.030 over), 355ci
Induction: Edelbrock RPM Performer Intake, Zinc Plated Holley 750 Double Pumper, Ram Air Box fed by headlight cut outs
Heads: Stock Heads with port and chamber work
Cam: TRW 0.496/ 0.520 lift, 224 Degree duration, 112 Degree lobe separations
Pistons: TRW Flat-Top High Compression, 10.3:1
      Rods: Stock
      Crank: Stock
Ignition: Petronix HEI Flame Thrower Performance Distributor
Exhaust: 2 ½” custom mandrel bent tubing, custom X-Pipe with stainless steel extensions (mufflers back), Hooker SuperComp headers, and Flowmaster Super 40 mufflers.

      Drivetrain:
Transmission: TH350 with B&M Stage 1 Shift Kit (Rebuilt)
Rear End: 10 Bolt Auburn Posi-Trac with 3:73:1 Richmond gears

      Chassis:

      Front Suspension: Stock (Rebuilt)
      Rear Suspension: Stock
Brakes: Front Disc, Rear Drums (Stock)

      Wheels:
Front Wheels: 15 x 7 American Racing Torque Thrust D
Rear Wheels: 15 x 8.5 American Racing Torque Thrust D
Center Caps: Trans Am style center caps from Shelby GT350

      Tires:
Front: 235/60-15 Firestone Firehawk Indy 500
Rear: 255/60-15 Firestone Firehawk Indy 500

Well I look forward to having fun with you guys and learning a great deal at the same time. Attached is a picture of my car.

Do you still believe in all the things that you stood by before? Are you out there on the front lines, or at home keeping score?
Do you care to be the layer of the bricks that seal your fate? Would you rather be the architect of what we might create?

Nice Olds! Any further plans for it, or just drive? I've been working on mine for... eh... wel... Ok, so I've been working on it on and off for over 10 years! So what! It'll get done... one day! I think.

Anyway, here's a pic of it. It's further along than this, but still a long way to go!

Glad to see there are a few Oldsmobile guys on this site. In the near future I plan to lower it with Hotchkis Sport Springs. After that I am going to replace my Hooker Super Comp headers with a set of cermaic coated Kooks headers in the next year or two. Longterm, I plan on building a .060 over 455 to drop in hopefully within the next 10 years. We will see, my wife is pretty good about my car but I don't like to push it. You know HAPPY WIFE, HAPPY LIFE!!!

I definitely hear you on the happy wife thing! My wife has been great, although I think she thinks I am nuts with the whole car thing. Still, when I asked her about the car and motorcycle (before we got married) she replied "every good woman know a man has to have his toys." Then followed up with "if he doesn't have his toys, he finds something else to play with, and that thing usually has breasts." Can't beat that, eh! Anyway, she's been great. The Harley was even her idea!

Mine has a big block Chevy in it, mostly because it had no engine when I bought it, and I had a low milage LS6 crate engine under a bench. Check into Sanderson on the headers. I'm running a 3/4 length header that fits tight and give a lot of ground clearance. What tranny are you running? Richmond 5-speed here. I don't know how well it shifts though, damn it!

I am running a 3-speed auto TH350 with a Stage 1 B & M Shift kit. I had the tranny rebuilt about 6 years ago and it really hasn't given me any trouble, knock on wood. The shifts are smooth around town and are pretty quick at the drag strip. Ultimately when I drop the BB in I want to change over to a 4-speed manual with overdrive. As you can imagine with a 3-speed and 3:73 gears in the rear she isn't exaclty highway friendly.
