      Pros Picks

      Okay how many of you out there think that the original idea of the Pros Pick area has been lost? Originally when conceived the idea behind this special parking area was that the average Joe who builds cars in his spare time could win an award for building a car that looked like a pro did it. Not only that, but it would be picked by the pros. Now days, pro builders are pulling into pros pick and taking home half of the picks. Now before everyone goes off thinking I am hacked off because I didn't get a pick or something like that, I want you to know that I have never had a car at these events I have only been a spectator who has seen the frustrations on many guys faces at these events. When a pro builder wins a pros pick what does that say? Congrats even though we all know you are a very well established professional, we are going to give you this gnawed off piece of billet to let everyone else know that you have properly done your job. Are all of the builders that insecure that they need a pick to let them know that they are pros? Here is another thing, why do some of the same cars that get pros picks at Indy get them at Columbus too? That’s a crock and a half. There are a ton of cars at both of the shows and you mean to tell me that the bearded one couldn't find 16 cars that weren't previously awarded in a sea of hundreds? When will Joe hot rodder get a chance to win a pros pick again? What does everyone else think?

      I would have to agree, I try to leave my ego at home when I attend a show.

      Excellent point, and I assumed that was the way it was supposed to work. The name of the award implies that guys like Foose and Boyd will be selecting their favorite cars from the regular guys at the show, not picking amongst Alloway, Johnson and Trepanier. But it sure don't seem to work out that way does it?

      I totally agree the Pro's Pick award is a joke now.All the guys that get pro's picks are pro car builders,I have even seen Foose cars win pro's picks,its a total joke.I feel like all pro car builder should not be allowed to be judged for pros picks.They should have there own judging area,like pros judging pros.

      I always wondered the same and I agree. But what classifies these guys as PRO's? At what point do we consider them pros? Does that mean if i get choosen for the pro pick area then I am a pro ?

      where is the line on who is pro and who is not ?

      Well if joe's didn't have pro's build there ride that would be an ok idea,but lets face it not many joe's can flip the bill to build like a pro themselves,that's why they have pro's do it.

      1.There full time job.
      2.Build more than 3 cars a year,for other paying people not yourself
      3.have been around,and building cars for many years.

      if any of you guy's realy want a pro's pick award I have a sure fire way to get just dress up like scotty gray and when boyd see you- your a shoe in. if he has 3 cars 3 pro pick

      What cars at Indy also got a pick at Columbus?Do you,as a spectator,feel there were cars at Indy that didn't get a pick that should have?I felt like the finalists in SROTY & SMOTY were NOT the TOP 5 in their prospective classes.BUT,I do feel the best cars in each class won the award,of course I am biased on my choices.

      Well, I guess the only repeat offender this year was Richard Ruiter and his '55 Chevy Convertible. The past couple of years if Bobby Alloway had 3 cars at Indy that won pros picks, usually the same cars would win at Columbus. Its not just Alloway either, a couple of years ago I can think of a car that won a pros pick at Indy, Columbus, and Kansas City. As for the Top 5, thats a whole other thread on its own. I totally agree with the winners. Both of those cars were by far the top street machine and top street rod. However, there were 3 finalist in the SROTY that I couldn't see and 3 finalist in the SMOTY that I couldn't see either. Lets start with the SROTY. Why didn't the Legens Willys pickup make the top 5? How did the Willys roadster make it? I have a hard time accepting that multiple judges listed it in there 5 picks. Same goes for the Black Dearborn Roadster. The silver 32, I can kind of see, but not really. My top 5 would have been the '38 Chevy, Greenings '32 Roadster, Willys Pickup, Meade Bladwin '40 Ford coupe, and the last one is a wild card. There were multiple cars that could have taken that spot. On the SMOTY side, I did not agree with the Oronzio tri five conglomerate. Custom Rod of the Year is the area that car belongs in, not SMOTY. Oh yeah and it should be Custom Rod of the Year 6 years ago when it was originally finished and before someone messed it up with some bad east coast decisions. Then again a very non street machine won it 3 years ago. Now the two silver '55s are definitely nice cars both could have a spot in the five. However both cars had qualified as finalist for Custom Rod of the Year. The convertible at Nashville and the post car at Des Moines. So in my opinion they are both out. If they had not been finalist for that, I would say a big yes to the convertible and the post car. So as for SMOTY the 5 finalist could have been Johnsons Cuda, the Chevelle, Terzich '61 Ford, the Black 60 Vette roadster, and another wild card that could possibly be the 55 Convert since it is such a damn nice car. Thats just my thoughts for what its worth.
