      Question on knock sensor placement...502RJ

      I'm haveing trouble with the placement of the knock sensor on my RJ502. When mounted on the right side the sensor plug butts up against a header tube. When mounted on the left it doesn't butt the header but comes close enough to look like it could melt. Has anyone found a fix for this?

      P.S. I'm running Heddman 2" primaries with 3" collectors.

      Right above the KS mount there should be a mount for a heat shield. The production EFI gen 6 454s in trucks used these. Ask for a 99 2500 suburban application.

      EFI, What do you mean by the "KS" mount? And, are you saying that I should get a knock sensor for a 99 Burb? Thanks for your help...

      KS = knock sensor
      I think he's saying buy the shield, not the sensor, but maybe both?

      The KS mounts in a 3/8" NPT hole on either side of the block. I think he's calling a hole the 'mount'. I know there's a couple small tapped holes around their on later blocks.

      I've used a thick wrap of header wrap to insulate the header tube where it got too close to something. That might work here, say 2" above down to 2" below the KS. You could also dent the tube in for a little more clearance. I put a dimple in my Hedman Huslers for starter clearance. A little clearance bump won't hurt any flow.

      Thanks, guys... I like the idea of insulating the header tube. Rockdogz PM'd me a link to some good harness shielding, as-well. I think I'll use both. I appreciate all of the help.

      I meant the hole for the knock sensor. I would get the shield from the Burb.
