      Update: My Cougar

As many of you know, I have had an '82 Mercury Cougar sedan of which I was working during these past few years, but was never able to take pics of it. Well, here are some select pics of the Coug'.

As of now, I have this beast partially disassembled. I say only partially because my Dad is now in the throes of Alzheimer's now and his death is looming on the horizon. With having to take care of my Dad in the waning era of his life, I just could not concentrate adequately on the Coug.

Hopefully, that will change in about a year!

That definately qualifies as different! What are the plans for it?

Sorry to hear about your father. My step dad has alz as well, he was diagnosed with early onset about 5-6 years ago. 59 years old and he is 100% dependent on my mom (as well as outside help) for literally everything but breathing. Horrible, horrible disease that's destroyed his life as well as my mother's..

My plans for the Coug are to build what Mercury's counterpart to the '81-82 Ford Granada GLX, fitted with a Mustang-type SEFI, a 5.0L GT-40X crate motor, and an AOD. The Granada GLX was the top-tier model with blacked-out chrome trim at certain key points. Why an OE-type powertrain?! Because I am planning on taking this bad boy on Hot Rod Power Tour, and I am wanting OE-type quality and dependability. Why not a stick?! I am LAZY!!! Seriously, converting the Coug' to a floor-shift AOD is going to be challenging as it is, and trying to convert to a T-5 or Tremec would make a long job even longer. It has been tremendously tempting, though....

Suspension-wise, I am planning on upgrading to SN-95 Mustang front suspension geometry and Maximum Motorsports bolt-ons. Wheels?! I am leaning very heavily toward the '04 Mustang Mach 1; nice big 17-inch wheels with that late 70's/early 80's vintage vibe! Behind those Mach 1 wheels will be Baer brakes.

I have already bought the SN-95 front lower control arms and a power brake booster from a '95 Mustang Cobra. I will be buying more used parts such as these shortly after these issues with my Dad are resolved!

Concerning the Ford Granada GLX, I often fantasized about being able to order a 5.0L HO V8 on the GLX in the '82 model year. In fact, I had drawings of such a car in my bedroom at that point in my life! Unfortunately, the most powerful engine that one could order on the GLX is the 3.8L Essex V-6.

Two years later, Ford would offer such a car in the LTD LX, which has been a HUGE inspiration for this project!
