      Coys Wheels

I think I am about to order a set of 18" Coys C-5 wheels. http://www.coyswheel.com/coys.html Has anyone used these and how do you like them? Did they ship promptly?
      Thanks, Frank.

I hear great things. I haven't personally used them but do a search for Coy's on our site and you'll find lots of satisfied customers. I plan to use em too.

I just got my two front wheels yesterday for a 56' Chevy were finishing up. I did a staggard set up, 18's and 20's. The 20's were shipped right away. They told me the fronts would be 2 weeks.

I should have them mounted and on the car this week.

I have had a lot of issues getting some stuff back. Long story short. I went to have my wheels mounted and the tire place bent one of the lips on one of my 17x10s. It took Coys almost three months and me getting kicked out of the tire place to get my wheel back. In the process one of my center caps got lost. I have been told now for almost two months that they would send it. I finally had to order a set from Intro at $20 bucks a pop.

On a side note when I ordered the wheels back in Jan it took three weeks to get them, I was really happy with their service up until my wheel got bent. I was told that the issue with getting the wheel back was that they couldn't find a hoop to replace my bent one with.

Thats just my 2cents tho. I have heard that there is a place Indianapolis, IN that sells Coys wheels and that people have had good luck with them.

      Thanks guys, sounds good.
Lower90, is your bent wheel a coys or another brand?

It's a Intro wheel, that Intro built for Coys to sell. I have never seen the wheel on Intro's website.

From what I can gather, Coy's doesnt build wheels. They buy/contract other companies to build wheels for them. There has been a talk on other forums that the Coys C5 are really Boyd Smoothie 2s, with a Coys logo on the center cap.

oddly enough most wheel companies use this model. Wheels are made by MHT or some other big company to specs and designs for whoever wants them. (foose pops right to mind) It's just the easyest cheapest way to get it done.

Three piece wheels are different, and usually cast and forged right there, hence the huge price difference. Coy's turn around of 4 weeks sounds ok to me. Some places take months.

Oh. and the claim that coy's are boyd smoothie IIs? thats crap.

note the peaking on the spokes of the smoothie and the cast area around the lug nuts. Totally different.

Now a real case could almost be made that coy's copied TTIIs.. almost.
note the peaking of the spokes near the bolt circle in the middle as compared to the softer radius on the coy's model.
      Subtle but diffrent enough.

there's no question they are real close to each other. but the lip is different, "fat lip" style. I gotta say i like the coy's interpitation best. And the 200 per wheel price aint too shabby either. (for the 18x7s Im getting)

I did order the wheels today [my birthday]. They assured me that they had them in stock and will be shipped Friday. It will take a couple of days to get and install my tires. I had them also supply my BFG g-force T/A KDW2 tires so they will be sent mounted and balanced. I paid a little more for the tires but I like that idea in case there are any issues. No one can blame anyone else. $1650 total including frieght.
I'm told that I should have them next thurs. :3gears:
I did ask where they were made. They are they're own design and are made for them by an off shore manufacturer [like everything else].

That helps clear things up then. Like I said before, when they 1st shipped the wheels they arrived right on time. Post pics when you get them.

I talked to Coys last tuesday and was told the owner had just finished a meeting with their supplier from China.I was told they wouldn't have my wheels (18x9.5 rear) for 2.5 weeks and I wouldn't have them for another week after that. If I didn't like look so much I'd order something else. Larry

I quite agree with the made in china crap and I hate supporting them but any made in north america stuff is just way out of my comfort zone price wise. Plus in the past many items I have purchased assuming they were north american made were off shore after all. Also, does anyone have any experience with these types of components failing? To be legal to be sold on our highways, we do have the protection of them being d.o.t. approved for safety I should hope.

You are correct. The only "quality" issue I know of that is made in china related is the powdercoating coming off of Foose brand wheels. (could have been a bad batch) but Foose isn't known for slapping his name on crap. I trust them enough. If and when I go into the performance part business as we plan to, we'll follow the same model and offer cool wheels, made in china fairly priced.

The DOT does not test each wheel. They approve the design with the specified material and manufacturing process. It is then up to the manufactures QC to determine if the wheel meets spec. QC is the biggest problem with PRC stuff.
