Center Console Suggestion
Hey guys, I know it has been asked many times, but I recently did some window shopping on e-bay looking for existing center consoles that would match up decent with my interior. I wanted a newer look and feel, but didn't want to get to involved in a project of making my own. So I searched and searched and finally found a console that paired up pretty good with what I have!
The console is out of a newer style Chevrolet Cavalier (96-00??) I went out to the local wrecking yard and found a couple automatics that had really nice consoles in them and also found a manual car that had a broke console. SO I took the one out of the auto car and took the shifter boot assembly that was still in good shape and had one very nice console with a spot for the TKO600 I just finished tonight.
All in all I had to trim quite a bit of material out of the bottom of the console to get it to fit just right. I am going to be using a couple of "L" brackets pop rivted in hidden places to attach it to the floor. I also lost the bottom of the main storage compartment but I will be using the floor for a bottom until I can fab up a peice out of aluminum for a bottom. Bot with the way I have it all, the shifter is a perfect fit to the console and alos the armrest is spot on for my seats.
I think it turned out very well and I hjave pics but not loaded to puter yet. I will post them prolly tomorow night so some of you can get an idea of what I did. I mean it is no master Foose design or anything but for the $10 it cost me for the console and the 2 hours I had in making it fit the tunnel. I am pleased. I have pictures of the console itself and by tmorow night I should have the interior back in the car so you can get a rough geuss what it will look like. Just thought I would share so the few of you wanting to make a console new there were other options out there! If I don't like it, I'm only out 10 bucks!

What's something like that cost? Think it would work w/o major mods in an El Camino?

07-07-2006 #7Well I have had the pictures fro quite some time now, just been busier than heck with work and home stuff. So here is a picture of the console in with the seats. I do have a couple more if anyone is interested. I have some showing how much I cut off and so forth. The other pic is of my gauges installed with the LED on for the high beam and the CD player also on. I like the looks of it all at night, just enough color to keep me interested, but not to much that gives it the cracker jack box look!
