      gangreen

Anyone see the episode of w to r last night. They did a drag car that they named Gangreen. Dont get me wrong i love novas and the color was pretty nice but again,... i saw some hack stuff done

      1. I havent done a full resto yet but doesnt it make sense to test fit everything before paint
      A. Grinding the leaf springs to make the tire fit.
      B. Cutting the 1/4 after paint has been done
      C. Putting a jack in the quarter to spread the inner wheel well.
      2. I saw a lot of fitting after the fact and i was always taught and found to test 2 x, do it once and then paint.
Also if i am going to an auction and gonna pay what they claim these cars a worth i want to know that it was a quality job and not a throw together. I know i know that they have 4 weeks but 50 k such as the gangreen is a hefty chunk for a so so car. Not saying it is cause tv edits a lot of stuff but.

If we were building this car under normal circumstances we would completely assemble the car, make sure everything fit just right, then blow it back apart for paint...I just wish some of you critics were available to come help us this next season...according to ya'll we could sure use your advice and knowledge...

gotta take it with a grain of salt i guess becky. your show is caught now between a rock and hard place. they've tricked you into "slapping" together a show car and trying to sell it for top dollar. Next season, I fear that your going to have a real hard time selling these cars off. Few are willing to pay "Barry White" money for a "wrecks to riches" car. You had Barry's reputation to ride on before, but now that these shows are airing and the editors keep showing all the shortcuts rather than the planning, and custom fab work, your going to run into problems down the road. I can't believe Barry wanted to be known for throwing a car together every month and trying to make a fast buck. Its not to late to try and reduce the number of cars due for next season. I, for one wouldn't mind watching 3 shows on ONE car for a change.

Good luck though. You've got a real challange there. try not to take all the knee jerk reactions to heart. Your doing a good job, and we're glad you are willing to mingle with us here.

I wish we could get the number of cars reduced...in fact they want us to do even more! We got a "production schedule" from them the other day, and they had two 3 week builds in there! What the hell are they thinking...they had agreed last year that if we did it again, we could have a minimum of 5 weeks per build...and now they're wanting 3? Besides being physically impossible, how the heck are we supposed to get parts for a complete car in that amount of time? Not to mention trying to keep work going on the 30 cars in the shop already...

      Just shoot me now....

      Becky,
I mean no Disrespect to any of the crew. But some of the stuff the tv cant edit they can only show you what is happening such as the jack in the wheelwell. I also understand that you guys are under a major timecrunch and 4 weeks is like trying to build an engine in 10 minutes. I do think the cars you guys produce look real nice such as the camaro as my fav but some of the stuff shows the inside of the car and still rust spots. I agree with Tony as i would love to see a car built over a 3 episode period. Look how Horsepower tv does it. They build the car in pieces each week. Also i know you guys dont run the schedule so that comment is thrown to the producers. all in all i dont like to bash cause what goes around comes around. And if you say that the cars you build off the show are really gone thru thats all i was wondering. So keep plugging and tell Barry to tighten the hoseclamps, check the firing order on the engines and not to redo any already mint vehicles ( blue Mopar)

3 weeks? But Chip Foose can do it in 7 days. It's true - I saw it on TV! LOL

No wonder my friends wonder why it takes me so long to get anything done on my car....

I think we're preaching to the choir. Is there any way we can get constructive comments to the network/producers who make these decisions - and make sure they actually get the feedback and do something with it?

I can pass on all of your comments...don't know if they'll do anything about it, but maybe. They have a certain agenda in their minds, and it takes an act of God to get our director to change his mind once he's decided on something.

You guys.... I mean, really. Who here hasn't done something like that before? I mean, all of us at one time or another have used a big block Suburban to straighten out a set of ramps just so you can get your lowered car on a trailer, right? Or even used a bottle jack to push the tail panel of your car back close enough into place so your trunk latch lines up just enough to lock it up? Sometimes it's the "quick fixes" that are the most interesting. Cutting the 1/4 after paint? It happens more than you'd imagine.

Hey...I got some "fudging" on my car that will thankfully be hidden that I won't be telling anyone about when it's finished. After the fact fixes that couldn't be avoided. Happens to everyone. Actually...I think the modified quarters add to the ambiance(sp?) of the Gang Green Nova. It is, after all, supposed to be a retro build.

11 days. When it came down to it, after the car came back from paint,we built it in 11 days and did it with 4 people. Now I know that we have all seen some low 10 second red 72 Vega station wagon at super chevy go down the track and think wow that thing's quick, but when you go see the car in the pits it looks like some kid from midas mig welded the POS together and now you have second thoughts about it. For what it was and the time we had to fabricate the entire front end, mount a drop axle, sub frame connectors, drive shaft hoop, an 8 point cage plus a new fire wall, trans tunnel, motor plate, get it to the dyno, tune the thing, change a hand full of parts, take it to the track, run it and make it to the auction on time, I would say we did well. I think I spent more time looking for my new trans then we got to build the nova. What I'm getting at is this, if we had the time and the parts sitting around we would do some things different. Sometime parts come the day the car needs to be done. It's our first season, companies don't like to give a bunch of stuff to a car show that has no history. We got another season, and I can tell you guys this, the shop is going to step things up a bit. We have some cool cars in store for everyone next season so keep watching the show and please keep talking about it on the PT site. Thanks.

The Vega you are talking about WAS fast. It was TIG welded by the guy that tought you what you know, so be careful what is said. Until you have something better and faster, well you know!

You can take your "Until you have something better" line of rubbish and cram it and a pound of sand.....well you know.

That is a load my friend. If you put a car out there to be seen, be it at the track, a show, on the web, auction block or.....you guessed it, on TV you subject it, and the person who built it to criticism. Like it or not and regardless of the source you are open to any and all critics thoughts on the vision of the designer, the quality of the build and the skill of the fabricators.

The classy thing (and you'll see this from people like Bob (SN65), SW and others) is to accept it for what it is, another persons opinion on how they'd do it. No less valid than the opinion of the person who ACTUALLY did it. You come off looking like a goon if you tell someone they are wrong, stupid or not worthy of comment for having different tastes.

As to specific points such as using a floor jack to tweak the fenders on an already painted car. C'mon, you can't possibly say that a deed such as that is "quality work". Granted the shop was kinda forced into an absurd schedule. But call a spade a spade.

For 11 days and only 4 guys working....I'd say that was an impressive build. Plus the fact that you do not yet have the "Foose Factor" working in your favor when it comes to getting freebies for the cars. I would reckon you'll probably have a hard time getting them next season too. Perhaps these sponsers are hesitant to hand over parts knowing that they're going on a car that will immediately be sold at auction versus going on a car that will fulfill someones dream. I could see how they would be a bit squirrelly about that.

But then again I don't think you guys need the freebies...it seems like you've made a pretty good profit on the lot of cars you sold this year.

Or at least, make up another fake identity here, and post using that name and say what you think thinking no one will figure it out.

      Right?

lets not let this deteriorate further. You've got an issue with them? This aint the place for it.
