      Front hoses

I am installing C4 calipers on the front of my 64 Buick Special with 13" rotors. What should I use for hoses? Thanks

Rubber is fine for this application.

Were your hoses custom or do you know of a specific hose that will fit?

you might try lines for a 69 camaro I think that is what has been used for the other A-body conversions.

I ordered mine from Summit using Earl's Performance Pluming parts. They make a generic braided hose with 3AN swivel female on one end and a 10mm banjo on the other for $18. The other parts needed: 10mm 1.0 banjo bolt (.425" height) and a tubing adapter (3AN male to 3/8" female inverted flare). Total cost for both sides was around $55 and the hoses meet DOT requirements. This was for a PBR caliper, hope that helps.

Try Noel at Touring Classics or Classic Tube.

      Either one knows brakes!

I received my new hoses last night and they fit great. I ended up with stock 91 Vette hoses. Now I am trying to find the 10mm banjo bolt.

Why do you say that Steve? I have some 10mm 1.5 from Earls, but have not torqued them yet as my hoses are back ordered. Have you had leaking problems before?

Well, maybe not Earl's but I got some new/reman calipers for a friends 00 Blazer, and for the life of me couldn't get the lines to quit leaking, hunt the old ones put them on and the flooding was over, buddy own a shop he says I never use the sheeott washer, just a little FYI,

Just think, just like Jason(Fuel) new paint and brake fluid, it don't mix, includes skin!!

I'm not sure why, Steve, but the problem you described I have seen many times. We would change hoses or calipers on a car and they would leak until we used the old brass washers. Then problem solved. I can't figure out why the new washers don't always properly conform (that is my guess as to what is happening). I mean brass is pretty soft.

The braided lines themselves are fine, though not nearly as flexible. You can't make tight radius bends with those.

Yeah, I do not care for the aftermarket stainless banjos and bolts. I really think the bolts are a little short. There's not many threads showing once you put it through the banjo with two washers. I had to really crank those suckers down to get a seal. I'm sure if I go any tighter I'll strip the threads in my new PBR's. I just don't feel comfortable with the setup.

If I can find some stock PBR Caliper bolts, I'd like to compare the lengths with those of the stainless bolts in the braided line kit. I may also switch back to rubber hoses with the grooved brass ends. I think those groves make a big difference in sealing.
