I agree; most of the racers were *****s, but c'mon; we're talking Detroit here! Did you ever make any of the runs down 6 mile or 5 mile (on opposite ends of Rouge Rvr park)? I didn't have much back then- a black 70 mustang fastback w/ a 351C transplant.

I used to go to the races at the 96/ Telegraph corner. The White Ccastle parking lot was like a betting house half the time. 'place ya bets', then off to run (ironically) in front of the AAA building on the other side of Telegraph. That's the last time I saw Mike beat down on some guys.

I worked for Carl Holbrook for a year; talk about abrasive! Back then Chris Farmer and the old guy Herb were still there. His son Chris and I went to RU together (he's older). Funny- I just saw him at PRI last December. Small world indeed.

I still enjoy drag racing, but don't get to do it much. One thing that pissed me off was all the dope dealers jumping into street racing; they weren't the most 'stable' when it came to a loss.

Yeah, you're right...this IS the "D". But I'm such pacifist. LOL!!! I was probably one of the nicest guys out there (which is probably why I lost so often). I hung out in Detroit quite a bit. French road was epic. It's a miracle no one was killed hugging the sides of that street as cars whipped by at 150mph. I used to love all the arguements too before and after a race. But then one night some idiot pulled a gun on another guy (no shots were fired) but after that we stopped going there. French is where the big money was, which of course attracted thugs. Of all the venues, I think I miss Telegraph the most. Those truely were "the days".
