steering racks

There seems to be problems with fitting some rack kits into 1st gen camaros, has anybody got racks sitting in the back of there garage or shops, that the measurements could be taken off and put on the site, then people could see if they can be fitted, ie I have got 96 vette spindles on the front of my 67 and had to modify the upper and lower arm lengths I now have some bump, now the people that have fitted the racks posted the measurements of the racks I and other people might find that they might work on there cars with no problem. Just a thought

I know what the purpose of your question is but, the fact is, there just aren't any good factory racks that can be positioned correctly to work well... The rear steer on the 1st gens causes a lot of geometry problems when fitting a rack.The rack needs to run right through the oil pan to get the right height for correct geometry. Bump steer and ackerman are very important factors in these swaps and that is where a "retrofit" rack will not work.
A Rack & Pinion is not necessary for a good handling/driving street car. Check out this thread for some very good insight into what is involved and why or why not it is worth the hassle...

looks like I'll do what i did on my street rod and build my own.

Check with mavalgear.com. They make the Unisteer set ups.
They build and stock shortened Omni rear steer manual racks, and Pinto style front steer racks.
If they dont stock it, they will custom build one.
If you need a power unit they will custom build one to your specs. in three different styles.
