Alternatives To Hotchkis TVS For X Bodies?

First i want to say that ive learned a great deal just buy browsing the forums and its a great community here.



Now..............I've got a 73 Nova that I want to add a suspension kit similar to the the Hotchkis TVS to. I dont want to lose all my ride quality and that seems to be the case with the Hotchkis kit. Are there any other kits similar to the TVS that will give me a good compromise between comfort and handling? I probably wont be going to the autocross track anytime soon but do plan to drive the car hard on the street. What do you suggest?

I would really like to know as well man. I am currently upgrading the suspension on my 71' and at this point I don't know what the best route is to take. As far as complete kits go for the x-bodies Hotchkis seems to be the only one out there. There are plenty of ways to peice together your own setup tho, from companies such as Detroit Speed and Global West. Not sure what the perfect setup for these cars is as spindles dont seem to be a good option, nor does a drop spring like the Hotchkis for the sacrifice in ride quality. At this point I am looking into a QA1 coilover conversion which might be an option for you as well.

the kit si basically the same as for the first gens and i have zero complaints for ride quality.. i have the tvs kit and drive my car everyday i think with teh right shocks it takes away a ton of the firm ride and i just have el cheapo gabriels from autozone right now

If you want someone else to talk to about 1967-1969 F-bodies and the 1968-1974 X-bodies, give a call to Guldstrand Motorsports in Burbank Calif. I used to work for him and they are good people. Besides it is where Hotchkis started in the suspension business, he and I work there at the sametime. Guldstrand raced Corvettes in the 50's and 60's and then went to the 67 Z-28 so he was doing it to this chassis when John Hotchkis was using a teething ring.

A nova is basically the same as a 67-69 f- body - i would recomend all the basics be checked/repaired first - ball joints, control arm bushings and tie rod ends ect - for a upgrage add a 1" or 1 1/8" front sway bar, after that i would recomend a good quality shock absorber , all that will make a huge difference in the way the car handles. then tires/wheels would be a good upgrade - then decide if that will make you happy - then from there you can get really serious if you want more
