Checking to make sure the geometry is right before we start machining the arms down.

Hopefully I'll be able to get up there next week and see how much progress was made!

Probably around 8 weeks. Then it goes to powdercoat for the frame.

I have a question about the rear upper control arms. In the photos above, it looks like they have heim joints or rod ends threaded directly into the upper control arms (at the inboard mounting locations). I know you said they were going to machine the control arms later. I am sure the guys at the shop probably already know this but threading steel into aluminum is not a good idea. And it usually leads to the aluminum threads wearing out. You may want to mention something to the guys at the shop about this.

We are still debating the rod ends to aluminum A-arms issue. Rodger feels there will be no issues as aluminum engine blocks use steel bolts. I feel a little unsure and think that, at least for safety measures, we could helicoil the female part of the UCA where the rod ends will go. In the meantime we smoothed the dash so no more ugly defrost vents:

Yes helicoils is a good idea. They should hold up with no problems at all. I work for the boeing company in Philadelphia and we build the CH47 and V22 military helicopters. We use helicoils in some of the machined aluminum bulkheads on our helicopters. They work very well. We use the kind with two or three set pins. Once they are installed corretly those thing do not move. They are relativley cost efficient too.

Their are other variations of the helicoil but I think I will go with that as it will take way the least amount of material from the arm, especially as we mahcine it down to its final shape.

Well.....looks like the boys up in Baker-tucky are at it again! Cuttin' an' Weldin'! Weldin' an' Cuttin'!

Cutting the firewall back!





Didn't want that "Bear in the Cave" look when you push the motor back and down for better weight distribution so I had the firewall and part of the hood sill cut back so we could set back the firewall too! It'll also make it easier to fish out the headers if I ever have to pull them out! Scattershield wasn't right so we have to wait another 2 weeks for a new one! Dammit!
