Pigeon Forge TN Event a Must

I travel a lot. One of my favorite things to do while on the road is to hook up with fellow members. During my eastern TN trip this week, I visited Bill Howell and his lovely wife in Pigeon Forge. All I can say is wow! It ain't the Big Apple. But as far as Pro-Touring event destinations go--it's the perfect town.

Picture a 3 or 4 mile long strip that's flanked on either side by every possible restaurant, arcade, funhouse and novelty shop. There are hotels everywhere, so room prices are held down by healthy competition. The neighboring town, Gaitlinsburg, is a picturesque village located right at the base of the Smokey Mountains. It has a Swiss Alps village kind of feel. Great for people watching while enjoying an ice cream cone or cigar.

And the roads!! Turn left, turn right--doesn't matter where you turn. You will be greeted by twisty, windy, hilly roads. They seem to just go on forever. And if you get popped for speeding, just tell the nice officer that you're Bill Howell's brother-in law, or sister, or cousin. Who could ask for more?

I must admit, I didn't get the whole Pigeon Forge concept last year. I figured that it was just the town that was close to the guy that was organizing the event. Now I get it. Even if you are located far away, fly in and catch a ride in a buddy's car.

If there is a Second Annual Pro-Touring.com Tour In the Hills, don't miss it.

Thank you Bill and Melinda Howell for showing me a big time. I'm sorry I lifted your wallet.

Sounds like a great time. I'm sure Bill will have another one this year. If he does I'm driving down there. I heard they had a lot of fun last year. I'll ask Bill about it tomorrow at the restaurant.

Gatlinburg. Where have I heard that name before? Ahh yes........

"Well, it was Gatlinburg in mid-July and I just hit town and my throat was dry, I thought I'd stop and have myself a brew. At an old saloon on a street of mud, there at a table, dealing stud, sat the dirty mangy dog that named me "Sue."

      Thanks Steve,
Melinda and I enjoyed your company too. The goat really shifts better now too.
I have started a thread in the racing events about this years event. It is labeled Pigeon Forge second annual event or something close.
At this time I am planning something similar to the first event, but the added benefit of it being on the weekend of the Grand Run in September. Traffic will be an issue, but I know the back roads. I plan on another day at the drag strip and also am talking with the other track next to it for at least an auto-cross. Make plans now to attend. I promise, you will have a great time, and the wife will love you too. More shopping spots per acre here than anywhere else on the planet.
If Bob will behave, we might even let him come....lol

Floyd gave us a nice discount last year and said we were welcomed back anytime. Such a nice guy and man, what a collection of cars.

I shrewdly left out a coupla key features to promote a healthy post count. Now that you've chimed in Bob, that shouldn't be a problem. And yeah, there's a Tanger Outlet Store Center in town. Y' know--in the off chance that your significant other likes a good SHOE SALE.

Also, I've never seen so many freakin' go cart tracks in one town. That's a good thing, since I have a tendency to get thrown out of go cart tracks.

Yeah. Last time I was there thats all me and my dad did. Most are ok but that one half indoorand half outdoor track has some badass carts. And the nacar place has the 1/4 scale v-twin nascars that are fun too.

The event last year was great! Mostly because Bill tips well! I can't wait to go this year.

      Tail of the Dragon

My inlaws live in Knoxville so it will be an easy excuse to come for the event. I think last year it was during Memorial Day which is always tough for me to get away. Tell me when and I will be there...my car may even be done.

The site is www.tailofthedragon.com 318 curves in 11 miles.

yeah i may have to make this next one as well. im staring school again so theres no telling. Deals gap and tail of the dragon are great areas. i perfer cherohala skyway though. less intense so you can actually look around and take in the view. besides there are fewer squids on the cherohala.

I do not have a calender in this hotel, but it will be two weekends after Labor day. Someone check a calender and we will plan it that Thursday thru Sat. or Sunday. It will be around the 15th whatever the days are.

Trey, we do not have enough time to do Deals gap, that would be a healthy tour from the house. Last year we stayed in Sevier County, but there were no complaints. Plenty twistys close to the house. We will have to plan around traffic a bit more this year, but we will work it out. I would love to do the cruise maybe on Friday afternoon this year so everyone can enjoy the carshow too. Saturday will be the track day.

Pretty much the whole town is a car show Friday through Sunday. And everthing is "FOR SALE"
