I have said it here before, but I will say it again. Smokey Yunick was the man. If you have never read his book (it is on cd also), do yourself a favor and read it. It will change your outlook about today's NASCAR if nothing else.

That was really good. A very good friend used to be a crew member on John Force's team (he was the clutch guy for the first several seasons that John won the Championship), they change the oil after every fire of the engine. He told me that the Super Stock guys used to grab the used oil and run it in their cars, becaue the residual nitro would flash out when the car was running. Other notable cheating *******s are the serious vintage race folks, big time. Those dudes are really competitive, often very sharp and subtle, and you won't be able to run with them if you don't follow suit.

Don't forget the Wayne County Dodge fiasco. Darrell Alderman and Scott Geoffrion were doing well there for a while until the rumors of nitrous started flying. Then all of a sudden someone breaks into their shop and destroys their motors. Hmmm...

I've read many atricles on Smokeys Chevelle, and he absolutly denies making it 7/8 scale, even in his tell all book. And for those who have read it, he does seem to tell it all. He even told people to go measure it for themselves, this was when that car was in a museum, where all could see.

One of my favorite he admitted too. He'd inflate and deflate a basketball that was inside the fuel tank. Inflate before tech, deflate after tech. "All while shooting the sh$t with the instector." LOL!

Yea, you should have heard the stories **** Guldstrand told us..

The inspectors would always check to make sure they didn't move the engine backwards by measuring. So what they did was move the front suspension forward a little bit to get the same effect. While the judges always measured the distance from the engine to the firewall they never measured the suspension

There's a great picture of Jenson Button and the rest of the BAR Honda crew watching the Monoco GP last year, from a hotel balcony. Seems they did something like this too, and got caught, entire team suspended for four races, death for the season. Anyone watch the Ferrari front wing debate during this past weekend? It's only cheating if your caught, and also if there is a rule that says you can't do it in the first place!

Yes, he did do this.

The story about him firing it up without a gas tank is a Myth. He addressed this in a printed interview I have.
