Wow, that guy did his homework! Very interesting, I knew Dynamat couldn't be the only game in town...

I just sprayed Second Skin's Firewall product on my interior panels. It certainly does help dampen the reverb of the previously-tinny panels when you tap on them, but so would just about anything that would stick to them.
Is it better than the foil faced mats at doing what it's supposed to do? Who knows. I can't measure the effect, and I can't do a side-by-side comparo to the mats since I don't have two Mach 1s. Hopefully for $160(shipped) it does reduce the heat transfer and deaden the sound to where I can report that it was worth it.

A very interesting article.........some very good points and some very wrong points..................while the tests are somewhat simple......I don't think they show real world applications...................

I sell Dynamat, Cascade and Hushmat and no one brand has 100% "the best" products.

I've been doing this for 15 years, even before Dynamat first came out and other then a long term adhesive test.....the only main thing that matters is the difference in the interior ambient noise before and after the install.

People need to really ask what it is that they are trying to acheive buy spending money for dampening..............if you want a quieter interior......a butyl or ashpalt product isn't going to give you that all on it's own............you need something with mass to it to absorb the noise...........underlay and or several of the foam/underlay based products from a few of the manufacturers will do that.

So are you saying the guy's own observations about his own car are incorrect?

No, I'm saying his "clinical" tests and how they are performed are something that I would not base a purchase decision on..........

How about you starting a thread with some objective advice about what works and dosen't for different applications.

We proudly wrapped every square inch we could on the Chevelle with Second Skin Audio's entire system. Damplifier Pro with a mil thick layer of Spectrum over it. Then we used Sludge in all the cracks and corners finishing off the front and rear firewall with a layer of Luxury Liner. All that I can honestly say is that their stuff is pretty damn amazing and Anthony can answer any tech questions you have with any bit of the process. www.secondskinaudio.com

ALOT. Probably 200-250lbs on my car. Well worth it in my opinion, though.

      Wow!

Too much weight for my application. I'm gonna throw down a layer of Dynamat (or similar) and that'll just have to be good enough. I want the car under 3000lbs.

Dynamat is certainly too costly for other alternatives available. Great article

For those of you that are concerned about adding weight, try this link: http://www.airmod.com/articles/PDF/c...ndproofing.pdf
Aircraft are particularly sensitive to weight and most people prefer a quiet cabin. Good information with db differences per material.

I'm surprised! I used two layers of RAAMmat (www.raamaudio.com, same stuff as Dynamat for cheaper) on the floors and one layer on the doorskins, rear quarters, underdash, and tubs. Then, I put down 2 layers of 1/8" closed cell foam in all areas to absorb noise. It works.

Probably weighed 80lbs at the most. Most of the extra mass is down low so I don't worry about it as much.
