I have him pretty bust on a few projects, and I know some other projects are there, on top of a full time job. I will let him know he has some email to deal with. I think he really has work coming at him from all directions right now.

it is my fault. no really i have him jumping through a bunch of hoops to help me get a rendering done for a magazine. last email i got from him was at 4:19 this morning and he was going to take a "nap" before heading of to work. sorry to all but he is still barely alive and kicking.

I also herd, that Kris is very busy. I too have my own shop and I work 50 plus at someone elses shop and I have a family as well? It is hard to keep everybody happy. Please don't hate on Kris, just hope he gets enough work to quit his dayjob; then all will be happy! Kevin

I think people forget two things about guys like Kris or John McBride.. they both have very busy day jobs and the rendering thing is all done on thier off time.

Second is that it takes a LOT of time to do a rendering or drawing. Picture getting off work at 5pm then working on side jobs till very late then hitting the sack and starting all over the next day.

I don't think Kris is intentionally blowing anyone off. He is just one busy mofo.. lol

I bet 90% of the members on this board are lucky if they get 4 or 5 hours of sleep any night of the weeek. I only own a very tiny business and I average between 5-6 hours of sleep a night between working 50 hours a week at a full time job, side jobs for small business, working on cars, and spending time with GF. Sunday I usually try to sleep for at least 8 hours if I am lucky.
Point is, I cant even imagine how busy members like Kris Horton and Andrew McBride are. It is very hard keeping up on phone calls, e-mails, and the jobs themselves. On top of working 50+hours a week at a full time job. I feel at least a little of their pain. See what going to this site does to us.

Steve and Adam nailed it. I'm a busy guy, but I wouldn't be doing it if I didn't enjoy it!

I average 4 hours of sleep a night, sometimes more if I fall asleep at the computer. I work the 9-6 at Jada, which is a lot of fun and then in the evenings I'll come home, catch up on phonecalls and as many e-mails as I can, then I'll get to work for a bit, throw dinner in the microwave and watch a bit of TV, and then hit it hard again until about 2-3a.m., sometimes later, as Robyn pointed out.

I got myself a Black Berry so I can keep up with e-mails when I'm out or on "vacation" visiting my folks or with my girlfriend.

Lately I've been managing my freelance business better and planning projects better, so things have been looking up lately and time doesn't seem to slip away from me as fast.

I am moving in mid-April, so I'm stoked about that. I've found a reasonably priced place in a nice area and best of all, it's got a garage!

Anyway, I'm definitely not ignoring anyone, so if you haven't heard back from me, don't hesitate to send over those e-mails again. I bought a new computer a few weeks ago too, so that messed things up a bit too at first! If all else fails, you can reach me on my cell any time of day (or night.) i will defend him up and down. he has always gotten anything i need done and some even with my crazy magazine deadlines. as with all great things sometimes we have to wait a little. he will come through for everyone.

Kris,

I know you're young and just starting out but please take some time to think about this. You have a huge niche market, you're one of the few people who do amazing digital renderings, and you have business falling out your ears.

It's time for you to raise your prices 'again'. I would suggest looking at it like a business, and start to build it as such instead of treating it as a consistent side job process. You will be able to manage your clients experience better and grow into a full time business. You can even have some of your shop owners sign a minimum X number of projects per year and they would become your A clients.

It's all about managing expectations and your time. I would think one of your goals would be to get to a financial situation where you are able to hire and train another worker or two so you can start delegating the job tasks. Even if it takes some time to train them it will be worth it. Then and only then will you become a business and truly be able to focus your time on growth.

Just me 2 cents as usual.

PS - Don't burn yourself out either!
