      Hidden windshield wiper motor

A long long time ago, someone posted a wiring schematic and installation notes on using (I believe) a ford escort wiper motor. It was installed behind the stock location, under the cowl. The existing hole in the firewall could then be patched. Anyone remember this or care to comment? Anyone? Bueller? Anyone?

      I've got them Paul...

If you can't find it Paul, let me know. I still have them. Haven't had time to get my website back online after I moved back home to Illinois.

We also have done this, but we used a wiper motor out of an 88 Volvo.

Pretty simple really, we had to cut off part of the original arm that mounts on the motor. We then re-welded it on top of the Volvo motor arm.

Make sure whatever you use, that the arm on the motor has the same throw. Just measure from the center of the wiper motor bolt to the little ballie thing where the internal wiper arms mount.

I think the orignal throw is 2", but dont quote me. Then we attached a simple L bracket to the unexsposed cowl. When you install the cowl you wont see the bolts or whatever you decide to use.

The motor was mounted behind the internal arms, due to clearance issues, where as the stock one mounts in front of the arms.

It took about two hours of fab and trial and error.

wiring, we really dont care too much about all the different freakin options, we kept it simple and used two speeds, fast and faster. If this car sees the Power Tour we will just deal with it, but we have no plans to drive it in the rain.

Ill try to post some pics soon.

it's a very easy set up and i think most people will find it much eaiser to do. The best part is you are remote mounting the wiper motor so you don't have to worry about all the mechanical linkages under the wiper cowl it's simply a cable.
