how to narrow 10 bolt in my garage

I will be puting a 8.5" 10 bolt into my 68 Camaro, and will want to narrow it. I would like to know where to get new flanges for the ends of the axle tube. Or maybe if I am carefull removeing them I could re-use the stockers. Also when I weld the flanges back on, I want to make sure they are square. My buddy has a big lathe and was going to have him make me a shaft that would keep everything centered while welding, or is there a better cheeper way. Anybody else done this? I am a cheep *ss and dont want to pay to have this done. Thanks for any help.

you really need a rear end jig to keep everything squared up, check out some circle track places, ive seen some in their catalogs from time to time, could at least give yo an idea on how to build your own if you can see one.
