      245-45-17 Fit!

Follow up on a prior post.
Well after having the front re-aligned -1.0 camber, +6.0 caster, and 1/8" toe in I re-fit the fronts with the nitto 0-1s 245-45-17 and they clear. I had to remove the lower inner fender bolt and I will replace it with a pan head.

I realize that many have run this size on first gen but, I had serious issues prior to re-alignment. I will be using -1.7 camber for auto-x, but I test drove at current -1.0 and everything seemed good.

I would think that the added neg camber shouldn't create any additional issues and should tuck the top of the tire in slightly. Any oppinions on this?

After several parking lot tests, only minor rub on the pass side close to full crank 90+*turns I had to really try to get it rub, off camber is of course worse. So a short story-long is am going to be able to run this size on all four corners.

The compound is really sticky I can notice a big difference compared to my 225 50 16 sz50ep. I can't wait to really push them. SS

Congrats.. BTW You have the same rims as I do...but I wont tell how much they cost us. I fit 225/45/17 on the fronts of mine though. I like the look.

Was the problem the backspacing on that wheel? Only asking because I am aware of others running widths up to 275.

They are a second set of cheap wheels for auto-x etc, the BS was 4.5-zero offset. I think part of the problem is all the positive caster built into the GW UCAs.

I was going to run a 225 45 but the fit is now good enough that all four corners the same will work and will be much better for rotation and tire life, hopefully. Carl C. had recommended remove a couple of degrees of caster which I didn't do based on figuring I would have to run the 225.

Hence the reason I didn't try to remove some of the positive caster, alignment shop didn't think that it would make a difference but they aren't neccessarily performance oriented. They did however let me sit in the car during the alignment and determine the amount of shims to add to get the desired race alignment, which was pretty cool, pays to know people.

I would like to know what an added .25-.50" of BS would do for fittment?

The 275 comes at a cost of tubular lowers and reduction in steering radius, probably is worth it but I just put Delalums in the stock lowers so they will stay for a while.

I don't recall where you said it was rubbing. But if it was rubbing the fender opening, any extra BS would bring the entire wheel and tire assy deeper into the wheel well. Of course then you get closer to the chassis and inner fender and comprimise a bit of turning radius. I believe that Carl used the steering stops on his speedtech arms to slightly limit steering angle to prevent interior rubbing.
