      Tires and Mini Tub

I am going to be mini tubbing my 67 camaro, and adding disk brakes. I will need to get new rear wheels and tires also, because the stock wheels I have now will not fit over the brakes. +

So I was wanting to go with a 18" wheel, with a 315 size tire. Looking at some tire websites for sizes, it looks like a limited selection. So my question is, those of you that have mini tubbed the rear, what kind of rear tire and what sizes are you guys running. Will I get a better selection if I go with 17 wheels? Do I just need to step up and go with a 335 size tire?

What width wheel are you running, I was thinking of using a 10 or 11" width wheel. I was looking into some Budnik wheels, but it appears that the 18" wheels only go to 9 1/2" widths. Can different widths be ordered? Thanks in adavance.

I went with 18x12's and a 335/30. Bundnik will build you a 12" rim, but the only drawback is it will cost you almost double. I guess it all boils down to the look you want to acheive and the money you are willing to spend.

I am going with a 315/35/17. I am going with those to help keep the width difference between the front and rear to a min. You would need a 12" rim for the 335's.

Jonny it is unfair to show those rims because they are a blob of metal and rubber now.

Jonny, what is the backspacing on those? I'm looking at some Weld 18x12's right now and am trying to guesstimate the backspacing I need until I can get home from Iraq and do some measurements.

      backspacing

patrolman, keep in mind that the backspacing is dependant on the over axlenflange to flange width. When you know that you can determain the correct backspace for your car.

Jonny I know, but still had to jab a little.

Thanks guys for your help. I think I will stick with the 315s.

What is the overall best combo??

I was just about to ask this question myself. I am doing a '68 Camaro and I have been really weighing the pros & cons of mini-tubbing or not and if so what size is right for me.

Here's my dilemma.... I really don't want to have the biggest tire just for looks... I want big tires to make a big difference if I'm gonna spend big $$ for them. A close friend of mine works for Kumho's Motorsports support/R&D and he told me that the race teams don't really like to even venture into wheels bigger than 17".

He also reminded me that if I stayed with wheels and tires from say a Z06 I would probably be able get replacements just about anywhere in the US. To me that just makes common sense....

I just think that have a big tire for looks is not enough..... don't get me wrong it LOOKS WICKED, but they don't necessarily perform that much better if at all than say a Z06 295/35/18 rear.
