      LS1 in 57 Chevy

Anybody do it (LS1 from F body in a 57 Bel-Air) in-between stock frame rails? Dad is doing it and is trying to figure out which headers to use without making his own. The car also has a rack and pinion setup that sits BEHIND the crossmember.... Anybody have experience here?

Have you tried a search over at LS1tech ? Surely someone over there has done one.

yeah, he has checked the typical LS1 sites.
IIRC, street and Performance' headers would not work for him because of the steering rack. Think they are made for a stock steering box (605?).

Aren't the S & P headers shorties? They should clear almost anything. If you want to save some money, and have similar performance, just pick up a set of LS6 manifolds instead of running the S & P shorties. The gains with shorties over the stock manifolds are negligable. You could even ceramic coat them to get "the look". Other than that, I don't think anyone makes a long tube header that will clear, but I may be wrong.

      Hi Guys

Try Bel air classics-we make a private label header for them for a LS1 in a 57 Chevy-their number is 888-556-1957. Tell them I sent you.

      Thanks

ralph, Dad bought a set of vette manifolds and they were a NO-GO. He is thinking a truck style might work.

SW, I will have dad look at the bel air classics. I am not sure if he is ready to foot a bill for 'Stainless Works' headers though. He would probably make them himself before he did that.

No problem. If he wants to buy bends, flanges, tubing, collectors, etc we would be glad to sell the parts to him.

      Thanks

Thanks again SW. Just talked to dad on the phone and he said he picked up a set of Bassani truck headers that look like they are going to work with minimum modifications.
