I saw one of those trucks with 350k a couple years back and it had more rust on it but it was still going. I bet the damn thing is still on the road unless the dOT removed it because of the rust.

It truly is unbelievable and I will never doubt again how some of those cars in the movies are still going especially if it is a Toyota.

Agreed- my 89 4 Runner has 304K on it, and is still my daily driver. It won't win any beauty or speed contest, but it does the job with nary a complaint.

If you left any vehicle in the world under water like that all the fluids would be water. No way would it have run more than 2 minutes without sucknig water into the engine. I learned this painful experience about 6 years ago when I sunk my Blazer under water at Silver Lake. Water was in the oil, in the tranny fluid, in the gas tank, transfer case rear end and front end.
Yeah my blazer started after we pulled it out of the water, but about 2 minutes later it died and bent several push rods. I drained all the fluids and did a couple oil changes. Drove it about a month or 2 after that but it went thru a quart every 25 miles. Smoke just poured out of the exhaust.

yeah. Note the whole "mechanic worked for 40 minutes" part. He pulled the plugs, changed the oil, refilled the battery, changed any other fluids, lubed the cylenders with wd/40 and cleaned the plugs. he coulda even flushed the carb in that time. Any non computer car would fire. That this thing is a diesel helps alot too. I'd like to see how it woulda fared if that truck had been in the building rather than riding it down. That woulda done it.

      /still impressed though.

I cal B.S. on the whole camper thing, and the fire too. Did anyone notice the bracing through the windshield when they dropped the camper? And the interior looked like they didn't let it burn for too long too. But, it must've been fun to do anyway.

I had a '92 Corolla with 254K when I sold it. Ran like a top, kick myself in the a$$ for selling it now, didn't burn a lick of oil. Rusted out pretty bad though.

Yeah, we had a '79 Corolla with 260K on it and it was still a daily driver... right up until some guys stole it out of the u-pull-it parking lot while were on our usual treasure hunt. They found the car 4 hours later, nose deep (up to the windshield) in Tampa Bay at a boat launch where the theives ditched it. It was missing a bunch of parts, including the interior, the fenders, hood, both doors, and some other stuff. My father spent 2 hours on it and got it running again and proceeded to get it roadworthy again in a month (it cost $300 for all the parts from the u-pull-it). 6 months later we saw both fenders on some hispanic guy's car... and a month after that we saw the doors and interior in a different hispanic guy's car. Who knew '79 Corollas were chop shop material?

Ultimately, my father drove the car another 40k miles before the constant missing, broken a/c, and cracked windshiled broke the camel's back...

I dunno... anything will last if you take care of it. My uncle had a '69 Cutlass with over 300K on it. Never had any major work done to it. Only reason it died when it did was because some jerk rear-ended it at 50mph while the car was parked. I had an '86 Bonneville with over 200K when I got rid of it. I also have a '95 Bonneville with 180K, runs great, no major work. It's for sale if you know anyone who needs a cheap ride. Oh yeah, my cousin has a 4cyl Mustang with over 150K, no real problems yet. There have been many others in the family, but I'll stop here.
