69 Camaro C4/C5/LSI/brake coversion help needed!

I have a 69 Camaro with drum/drum brakes and I am looking for an inexpensive ($500-$600) front big brake upgrade.

I am interested in a C4/C5/ or LS1 upgrade but I don't know what to look for.

Which one is the best for the money and easiest to do out of C4/C5/LS1?

What size rotor? I have seen C4/C5 in several sizes ie. 12", 12,5", 13".

      Can I run a stock booster/master cylinder?

Does anyone have a breakdown of the parts needed?

      Please help!!!!

      Steve

It may be difficult to do any of those for that price using new parts but maybe. I would suggest looking at www.touring-classics.com They have all the work done for you but it will cost a little more than 5-6 but its worth the headaches you will save if you ask me. Best of luck!

This has been discussed many times. A search will get you a lot of information. To summarize, you can get LS1/C5 calipers (and used rotors) from Ebay for as little as $100. Mounting brackets are available here for about $135:

      http://www.speedtech-performance.com...o%20brakes.htm

Replacement rotors, if needed, can be purchased at any auto parts store for about $75 or less each. You can use Earl's braided steel brake hoses for a '69 Camaro with the C5/LS1 calipers. You'll need to get your current hubs turned down to fit inside the rotors, there's information on the Speed Tech site. The hubs may also need to be faced, as the rotors index off the hub faces.

The LS1/C5 rotors are about 12.7" in diameter, hence the various claimed sizes.

I run an S-10 MC, but you may well be able to use the stock MC/booster.

Again, try a search and you'll get lots of information.

If money is the limiting factor, then the choice will be determined by your rim size.

C5 won't work in a 16" rim, and may not fit in some 17's without some rim spacers. C4's will work in some 16's and most all 17's.

What are the disadvantages to C4?

There is a set for sale in the Classified section for $325.

Anyone see anything wrong with them?

I have been looking on ebay to buy the parts (rotor and calipers), but I am still unsure what to look for.

      C5/C4/LS1?

I don't have wheels yet, so I am open.

It sounds like C5 on the front is the way to go. Is that the deal?

C5 on back too, or I see LS1s on the rear most of the time. Does the C5 not work on a stock rear?

Any guidence would be appreciated. I would love to hear from someone who has done a budget large brake upgrade.

I am still confused. See questions above.

      1. Standard C5 12" or 13"?
      2. Will C5 work on the rear?

I resonate the idea of contacting Touring-Classics

As a matter of fact, you'll see that they are site sponsors. Maybe see if you can purchase partial kits, ie brackets only, etc.

      http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/88-96...QQcmdZViewItem

      C4 13" front
      C4 12" rear

Get myself C4 front calipers and brackets

      98-02 LSI Fbody frt discs

i carry 1/4" steel lasercut brakets to mount the LS1 f-body calipers cradles, rotors , this gives you a 12x1.25" rotor a large dual piston aluminum caliper for good stopping power and this setup should be doable for 3-400$ max your drum spindles and hubs need some minor machine work , and longer wheel studs are needed also a adapter fitting to combine the oe bubble flare and inverted flare hard lines . 50$ shipped lower 48 states on brackets

Do your brackets come with instructions and/or parts lists?

      I am VERY interested.

Are C5 and LS1 front calipers the same?

Should I focus on 12" C4 to keep from any wheel troubles?

No there not, C5 say "CORVETTE" on the caliper, LS1's are plain,

Focus on how you want to build it, if you have to a 12" rotor that sfine it going to stop better than 69 factory parts,
