      backspacing help 67 camaro

I just installed a set ot tires and wheels on the front of my car and am not happy with how they look. they are 17x 8 with 4.75 bs and the tire is 235 45 17 the problem I have is they stick out even with or just a little past the edge of the fender and I wanted to tuck them inside the fender. I was wondering if anyone has ever put a 5.5 backspaced wheel on the front of a 67 if so i would like to here from you or anyone with some good suggestions.

I got my information for these wheels from a guy that had them on a 69 and they looked very good. does a 69 have more fender space than a 67?

with the wheels on the car and looking under it looks like i could fit it without any problems but I have already been wrong once (1400.00 wong)
and would like to get it right this time.

also the car has been lowered 2 inches

Do you have any pics of the problem? I always though that 4.75 or 5 inches of backspacing on a 67 was right.

Yeah, 69s have more space. I have 4.5 bs on my 67 and it sticks out, I was going to run 4.75, mocked them up with the same size tires you got 235/45/17 and they tucked in my wheelwells. Looks likeI could maybe go 5 inches all the way around.

I am currently running IROC wheels on my '67 with 245/50-16's. The fronts are 16X8 with 5" of backspacing.

They work very well but the backspacing puts the inner bead of the wheel right next to the steering arm/tie rod to the point where the dust boot keeps the inner edge of the wheel nice and clean. Looking at my car, I don't think increasing the wheel diameter to 17" would make much difference here.

Putting the rear wheels (4.25" backspacing) on the front clears the suspension nicely but puts the tire very close to the fender well at the top and would rub at the rear of the fender wells while turning.

This is with stock suspension converted to '73 Nova disc brakes.

I ran a 4.75" back space on the front of my '68, with 245/40/17 and it did put the edge of the tire right at the edge of the fender. I had no problems other than a little rubbing when you had the suspension fully compressed. If I had to choose, I think I would run 5" BS.

they sent me the wrong bs

Well just got back from the shop and while i was over there I decided to see if indeed the wheels were the bs that I ordered and found them to 4.25 not the 4.75 that i ordered so they will be going back for sure now.

so what was the outcome?? I'm getting ready to order some TTII's and I'm torn between 17x7 or 17x8's for the front. What size tire did you use and what backspacing?? thanks
