1959 Cadillac restomod FOR SALE "The Grand Illusion"
The time has come to potentially sell my pride and joy, my 1959 Cadillac “The Grand Illusion”. My family of 5 has outgrown it, and I have a 65 Belair station wagon we can all enjoy now. It’s for sale, not on sale. I’ll be ok with keeping it for decades if that’s what’s meant to be. Brief history on the car before we dive in! This car lived it’s life in Europe, and was originally a 4 door Sedan DeVille. In the early 2000s, some Dutch gentlemen had a beautiful vision of turning this into a 2 door with a slightly chopped top, creating what they called a “megacoupe”. It's essentially now a Coupe DeVille, with a longer and lower roofline and larger backseat area. To my knowledge, the only one I have seen configured this way in the world. There may be others, I have not seen any. The project stalled after all bodywork was completed around 2012, and it sat dormant for a few years when one of the builders passed away. I saw pictures of the car around 2020, and I just had to have it. After working on the deal for almost a year, I purchased the car and it was shipped to me in early 2022. Unfortunately, the car was damaged on the cargo ship...which resulted in a complete re-paint and ultimately that took a snowball effect into a full-blown restomod and (in my opinion) one of the most beautiful Caddies you’ll ever see on the road. This thing is wild, but this is a car everyone seems to love. I enjoy it with my family, I’ve put nearly 2000 miles on it since it was finished, and I enjoy the heck out of this thing. It's incredibly nice, and it’s also a car you can DRIVE. Smooth ride, 1 hand on the wheel running 90 mph kind of car. Ice cold AC. Sounds amazing. Good Power. Stops on a dime. Runs cool. Killer Stereo. Rich leather. It checks all the boxes. Fly in, drive it home...it’ll make it if you aren’t worried about rock chips.
Paint and Body
Body work done in Holland at The Metal Factory. Rear doors welded shut, door jams relocated forward to accept coupe front doors. 3 inch chop in front, 5 inch chop in rear. Uses coupe doors, coupe windshield, and coupe front door glass. Rear quarter glass is removeable and rear window is custom lexan. All done by Brian Harding, Glass Guy Chicago. Handles are shaved (door poppers under rockers and also on remote, works perfectly). All emblems and trim shaved. Side skirts removed and smoothed out. Complete seamless body.
Painted in HOK Tangelo Pearl with a Matte clear. The car has a beautiful glow in sunlight, almost like its on fire. The roof is an unreal west-coat style airbrush with 8 different candies. You can stare at the roof for hours and appreciate the work.
All chrome is new. All stainless was restored 3 years ago. Front and rear grille are original in good shape, but it wouldn’t hurt to chrome them. Some of the belt-line moldings were completely hand built because of the 2 door conversion and look factory.
Engine Bay
All custom fabbed steel paneling for a very clean look. Under all the panels, everything is painted and looks nice and clean as well. The car does not overheat even with the paneling in place.
Drivetrain
Forged L96 6.0. BTR Stage 3 Torquer blower cam. LSA blower with 2.55 Griptech pulley making 12 psi. Custom Ron Davis Radiator. Custom fabbed 2 inch headers, full 3 inch stainless mandrel bent exhaust through QTP electric cutouts and Spectre mufflers with side exit exhaust and handmade exhaust trim rings. Level 4 Monster 4L80e trans, 3600 Circle D Converter. Fab 9 Rear end. 3.73 limited slip. 35 spline axles. Rick’s Stainless Tank with vaporworx controller, ZL1 fuel pump. PSI Conversions harness.
Suspension/Brakes
Airlift 3P air suspension. Works perfect with 0 leaks. All self leveling works as it should. All stainless brake lines, Wilwood 4 piston brakes front and rear. Wilwood electric e-brake. ABS Power Brakes electric brake booster, works flawlessly! 1600psi of brake pressure at all times with the key on.
Wheels/Tires
Isotope Kendalls 20x9 in chrome, Vogue tires
AC
Restomod Air “Haymaker”, works flawlessly. Bluetooth capabilities as well, so it can operate from your cell phone app. Beautiful billet vents, controller, and bulkhead.
Interior
59 Impala dash, Dakota Digital RTX gauges. All real leather/alcantara interior using Hydes Leather. 6th Gen Camaro front seats with full power. Rear seat is a Snowden bench seat from a C10. Full center console front to rear. Flaming River tilt column. Power windows in front (vents windows as well) from Specialty Power Windows. All LED interior/exterior lighting. Full custom trunk. 100% of interior has been lined with Hushmat. All new wiring from Rebel 9+3 Wiring Harness. Hidden killswitch. All audio/air ride equipment hidden in trunk and easily aceesible.
Stereo
Very nice stereo using a Kenwood head unit with all Audio Control equipment. Custom sub box molded to rear quarter. 5 channel and 2 channel amp. Front component set and rear 6x9s.
This is a well-sorted turn key car. Needs nothing but enjoyment. I have pics of the entire build and tons of additional videos or anything you may need. The car is insured for $250k without hesitation.
Price is $250k. I’d take a bad ride on trade plus cash as well. You cannot begin to build this car for this price, unless the car was free to begin with or you did every bit of labor and took years and years to complete it. Enjoy this one now and skip all the hassle. I promise you will not find another one remotely close to this car anywhere. Be the only cool cat around with a wild 59 Caddy like this. Are there nicer ones? Sure. Are there most expensive ones? Sure. Are the cheaper ones that are nice? Sure. But you won’t find one quite like this! Thank you for considering.
$250k
