      Tail light opinons

I'd like to see what is thought about this tail light look. It's pretty much just C5 tail lights grafted into the bed. This is a quick and dirty photo edit where I just slapped the back of a Corvette on a Dakota then grafted color to hide parts. I am going to be glassing the tailgate to the bed, so it won't be opening, and using a roll pan in the back.

I'm kinda concerned that I will get tired of it pretty quickly, since you see Corvette tails on a lot of trucks, but am not sure what else to use. I'm wanting to do something with red brake and yellow blinkers, that does NOT wrap around the side of the truck, and Eurospec Corvette tail light lenses allow for this.

If you have a suggestion that might work, I'm all ears even if I decide to not use it.

I actually don't think the Dakota rear end looks too bad. Just make it look like a Dakota RT and I think you'd be in good shape. Only others thought I had was maybe to graft in some taillights from a 73-79 Ford pickup. It would be quite a bit of fab, but it sounds like you may be up for that.

Please don’t do these corvette lights. It reminds me of a cheap conversion truck company from the 90’s that used that type of light.

Don't mean to yuck that partiucular yum, but that will age like milk. That said, I don't know what else to put in there. Maybe some sort of Charger-esque horizontal bar near the top of the tailgate?

No, no, it's fine, that's why I asked for opinions. I've been trying to figure out a solution for this for about a year now. I kinda like the Corvette tail lights because it ties into the suspension, but after about 5 minutes I get tired of looking at it. A week later I like it again, then quickly tire of it again. Normally I know what I want but in this case...

Anyway, appreciate the opinions, looking forward to the ideas of anyone else who wishes to make a suggestion. Something flat would be best as I don't plan on wrapping around the side with this.

You might look at the 69-70 Dodge Charger taillights. They are pretty flat and could be made to blend well with the license plate area.Name: images (1).jpeg

If it breaks I didn't want it in the first place.

79-87 El Camino tails in the roll pan. Use the clear area to house a clear/amber switchback bulb and wire accordingly for reverse/turn signals.

67-72 c10 lights? Might be able to blend in with the body lines.

Just so y'all know, I'm trying to ignore this thread until the polling time is over so as to get uninfluenced ideas from it. I've seen polls like this where advise is asked for, then the asker proceeds to savage every suggestion and I don't wanna be that guy.

New possibility: 1968 Camaro, except with a body colored bezel instead of the chrome. I'm also looking at all the suggestions above.

I saw this in the dark of my morning commute and your project came to mind. I thought I was coming up behind a pickup. Its a new Infiniti QX80:

It looks like the only suggestions that fit the parameters will be the 67-72 Chevy truck and the 78-87 El Camino rears. Flat, allow for an amber turn signal in place of the reverse light, fit in the rear area, no wraparound to the side. The 68 Camaro was close but they have a curve on the outside to fit into a light recess that might be hard to deal with. The non-GM options, both here and others I looked at, seem to be made of unobtanium now. Aside from a few salvage yards selling rough pieces, not finding much unless I want to go new LED and that only comes in red. A 1974 Chevelle assembly could also work, using the backup light for the turn signal.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone. I really wanted the Corvette lights to work but I'm forced to agree, they just aren't that pleasant to look at for more than a couple of minutes. After that, yuck.
