17" rally wheels on a 1967/68 Camaro
I'm looking for a picture of a 67 or 68 camaro with 17" rallys from WheelVinteques, anyone seen one? I've only seen a poor picture of a 69.
Also do 275X40X17 really fit a standard un-tubbed arch or is it only with the wheel sticking out from the car? (I'd like it to look right)

01-02-2005 #2I'm also looking for pics of a 68' camaro with 17/18 inch wheel vintiques rally wheels!!! I was just gonna post your question!! Here are the pics I have of 69's with 17's. Let me know if you find anymore pics!
01-02-2005 #3Wow, thumbnails look wierd, but they work. I'm not sure why there isn't more out there with that setup. I've been thinking about running a 18x9, 18x12 setup but haven't seen anyone with it. I love the classic look of the 15" rallye, but want the updated look of a 18". You plan on running something in a 17" or 18" rallye?
01-02-2005 #418s look really cool- no argument there... But because of the height of the sidewall you're going to loose grip. Steering feel will be sharp though, but so what if you don’t have the grip. It's also more difficult to put down power with short sidewalls, after all that’s why drag cars have soft, tall sidewalls.
So it comes down to compromise as always, 17s have a large range of size available as do 18s, where as 16s don't.
17 have my vote. Thanks for the picture- Keep looking.
(Although BMW M5 has 18s in the exact size we'd be looking at, but the BMW has sophisticated geometry set up for those short side walls)
01-02-2005 #5excuse the crude picture but this is what it should look like
01-03-2005 #6Nice pic. I hear what your saying about the difference in the tire wall height. And your right it's all about comprimise.

Are all of these pics of 17's? Who makes 18" ralleys? It's hard to beat the clean look of a set of rally wheels and I didn't realize 18's are a possibility.
01-07-2005 #8I believe all the pics on this thread have been 17's. I think you can only get 18's in the billet rallye. Doesn't look like the pics here are billet. I'm not completly sure about that though. I've only really seen classic rallye's in bigger sizes from Wheel Vintiques(that may be the only place out there with them). I've been playing around with Photoshop and hopefully I'll be done with my hack job of putting 18" rallyes on a 68' since there doesn't seem to be anyone out there running that combo!

I am pretty sure you are right about all of the pictures being 17" wheels, but from what I remember reading about those cars, they all have the billet wheels with the centers powder coated. I checked with Wheel Vintiques and they indicated that it is an option to powder coat the centers on their billet rallye wheels.

You guys fitting 18s and larger should know that as I previously stated, they look cool but will not grip as well as the taller side walled smaller rims. Also when they do let go they will be harder to catch. but you probably knew that anyway.
Any way you can get 17 inch steal rallyes but from what I can see they use the same center piece as 15 inch, so they look a bit odd and may be more susceptable to temperature changes due to a larger quantity of air that the alloys.
