1969 Camaro tri coat- Time to paint!

Just about at decision making time about color choice. 1969 Camaro, Choosing a factory tri coat Red. Leaning toward Ford metallic Ruby red (RR)…. Looking for some feedback on this paint code. I’ve seen Madza46v, Gm Cherry Red…. Ect They all look pretty dang similar.
I’ve never had a car painted so I’m open to any guidance or experience. Car is at a reputable builder having the work done.
Also big question is I’m adding black stripes, should I add metallic or pearl to give them similar dimension as the body?? Thanks

The Mazda 46V is going to be hard to beat. Almost looks like a candy color. If you haven't seen it in person, do so, and you'll pick it, hands down. As far as stripes go, if you're using black, glass and crystals will start to "muddy" up the depth and shift the color when looking at an angle (it will start to look milky grey on side tone). OE's love using big metallics, glass effects, and crystal effects because it's the only way they can make the boring shapes pop. They have little to no depth, but look shiny and sparkly. The amount of crystal and glass in the reds you've chosen will lack the deep depth of a solid color (but gives you the cool color shift in side tone). I personally would do a solid black or a black with a very small amount of metallic to preserve the black color in all tones. Definitely need to do some spray outs and see what you like!

Thanks for the very descriptive reply. That makes sense about the depths with color and stripping. With sprays out from what i understand based on the amount of base coats and mid coat you can achieve different results.

Orion paint has a non tri-coat that looks very good to the mazda color.
Tri-stage paints suck to match, fix, repair blah blah.

i think its this one https://orionautomotivefinishes.com/...etallic-candy/
but, pick up the phone and give them a call, theyll get you the right one.
spray it right over black.. it reduces 1:1 no need for a third/candy coat

Yes, absolutely. If your painter doesn't do production, he probably knows guys that do. Most good painters in shops do spray outs on tough colors and build a library with notes on number of coats. This lets them match up different variants. I'd ask your painter to find a shop that has a few spray outs already done and pick from those. You WILL have to use the exact same paint system (brand) that the shop used for spray outs! PPG and Axalta are very different in how their waterborne and solvent systems work.

The Mazda 46v is hard to beat, but as expressed by others I would not do a tri coat. If you ever need a repair be prepared to pay accordingly.
