Starter issues

Good evening everyone! I have an odd problem. I just rewired my dads 1939 Chevy to include a battery relocation in the trunk and a ford remote starter solenoid in the trunk. The starter is factory style ls and I know is good. If I arc the posts the starter engages fine. However, when I try and crank with the key, the starter clicks once as if the battery is low, but it’s been on a charger and is brand new. Battery kit is a summit kit. Solenoid is from advanced auto. Any ideas? Thank you.

So it cranks if you arc the posts on the remote solenoid? Or the starter solenoid

On the remote solenoid in the trunk

Well when you manually cross over the trunk solenoid your eliminating the switch Inside the solenoid. Have you tried a small jumper from battery side hot all the time of that same solenoid to the trigger pole of that solenoid. If it switches correctly them you got an issue on the feed to the trigger pole

I’ll give it a try. If there were a feed issue to the s terminal, why would the starter click? Wouldn’t it do nothing?

Good question but your either not getting enough current positive on your S signal circuit or enough ground on your starter. You being able to jump the remote solenoid and get crank kinda rules out starter ground

So I’m looking for voltage drop at the s terminal at crank signal?

So it was a bad remote solenoid. However now I have a new problem. When I hit the key it cranks, but won’t stop cranking until I pull the neutral safety switch wire. I’m wondering if I have it wired wrong. I have the old 4l60e plug type. I have the “E” wire to the back to the ignition switch with the ignition switch with the wire from the painless fuse block. I ran the “G” wire to the “S” terminal on the remote solenoid along with the wire from the starter relay. I’m wondering if something there is wrong.

Awesome glad you got it sorted out. Seems we all have gremlins on the new builds to sort. While it's frustrating, it's fun to troubleshoot and learn to me by anyway. Also ad to help. Several on this forum have been so valuable during my build.
