      Cam??

Curious as to what your guys thoughts are as far as cam selection. I have the 502/502 with 1.7 Crane gold roller rockers. I am putting a Edelbrock single plane intake on it along with the cam swap! Stock cam is a hydraulic roller and I wanted to replace it with another hyd. roller. I am running 150 shot of NOS for drag strip application but plan on bumping that up when I put the single plane on. What do you guys recomend for a cam? Anyone have any luck with a certain Brand, size? I do mostly daily driving with the occasional drag strip excursion. Also if you could recomend a cam, what lifters, valve springs, retainers, etc???

First off, if this is a daily driver the drivability will be a pretty big factor. What transmission, stall converter (if auto), gear ratio? A single plane is aimed more at mid to high rpm power so you will want a cam to complement that powerband. Also, nitrous like a little more duration on the exhaust side. You should check out comp cams K kits. It has all matched components.

Yes all those questions need to be answered first. Can't really tell you about a cam if we don't know the rest of the specs. Also add into that what Max RPM you want to run the motor too.

Secondly, I would stick with the stock lifters but go to a Comp Beehive spring. On BBC setups with hyd rollers and the right cam you can spin the motor to 6400rpm without valve float.

Ooops! The tranny is a mnual valve body TH350 with transbrake. Stall is a B&M 3500. And rear end is outiftted with 3.73. Well the motor makes max power at 5400RPM. I turn it up to 5800 before shifting. And have a 6000 rev limiter in the MSD. I have seen the Comp Beehive springs and have realy heard only good things about em. I thought you didn't want to reuse lifters when installing a new cam. I know for usre you don't want to on a flat tappet, but I thought the same logic was also in effect for the hyd roller?

No the Hyd Roller lifters like any Roller lifter can be reused.

As for a cam I would do something like a Comp 11-450-8 with the beehives. I custom design all my cams since a shelf roller and a custom all cost the same to me. But that's the area where I would start with a cam for your motor. Shoot me a PM or E-mail if you need some help with that.
