DIY Full-Length Chevelle console, version 1

I built this last year or maybe the year before (I forget, I haven't really been home in a year) and am finally about to go back and get some time to work on the car. I'm thinking I might make another one, but with more of an armrest. Anyway, there are a couple similar threads already and I'm just posting this in case anyone else is considering making one.

The first step was making cardboard templates for the sides, pretty standard stuff. After that I measured the different widths from front to back and cut brace pieces out of wood to match. I don't like the idea of using wood in car projects, but it's all I had at the time. The sides are PVC board from Lowe's, which I left in the FL summer sun for a while and then selectively used a heat gun on to allow me to make the width vary as needed. I then got a sheet of PVC, trimmed it to the same general shape as the top and stuck it on the outsides to create a bit of depth once wrapped.





Once the sides were settled I made some carbon fiber pieces for the center, cut and drilled as needed, and got the shifter, Restomod Air knobs, head unit and cup holders in place. I still need to mount the power window switches, but there are lights inside the console that shine downward, a single USB port hidden up front and two USB ports on each side of the lower rear. Lots of fun wiring.





Finally, I wrapped it in leather and got everything more or less installed. The aluminum piece in the middle in one of the pics is not actually part of it, it's just kind of in the picture. The green lights look obnoxiously bright in the pics, but it's a longer exposure and reflecting off the Membrane sound deadener. In real life with carpet it's a lot more subdued.



That's pretty much it, not really a huge project and something you could do in a day or two if you had all the materials on hand.
