Why Early SS Cars Sits Low In The Back

Probably 99% of modern drag cars sits higher in the back.

I have notice that almost all Super Stock cars from the early days (early 60s) of drag racing sits lower in the back.

I am sure it was not done for style.

What are the Pros and Cons of this setup considering they were not running any wheeliebars???
