Am I ok to machine my intake so my valve covers fit?

So I have a new 383 and installing an Edelbrock "roots style" supercharger. I have Edelbrock tall aluminum valve covers that will not go on due to the flange hitting the intake manifold that the SC sits on. There is quite a bit of material on the intake that can be removed (in my opinion) without interfering with the intake to block gaskets. I could take a little off the valve covers but not nearly enough to allow them to fit. I may need to have both machined.
So QUESTION (??) - Is machining off approximately 3/16" along each outer edge of the manifold an acceptable practice? This is a brand new $3,400 SC kit so I certainly don't want to screw things up, but I see no other reasonable solution. Note; I did order a set of Felpro 1604 thick cover gaskets which might help as well. I appreciate anyone's feedback who has dealt with this. Thank you!

You can get them in different thicknesses & seal them to the heads, lifting the covers above the intake.

I have looked at spacers as an option, but I'm trying to find a way to solve the problem without them if possible. Thank you for replying!!
