If you're having trouble call John or Travis over there at Calvert racing. He can probably get you in the right direction, you just started with a half turn of preload? Where are you at now?
We have a 74Z28 running a blown big block that was in a stock rear leaf car with drag shocks and 26x10.5 ET Streets. Best time ever out of it was 12.13 @114 MPH with a 1.69 60' out here in Vegas. After we put the Caltracs on (without tuning) we immediately went to 11.95 @115MPH with the 60' remaining pretty much the same. The interesting thing was that the car always squatted good at launch and then went down the track nose up the whole way. Now the rear actually picks up at launch and stays straight and upright all the way down. We're really very happy and it was money well spent...

I'm not having trouble, I live in FL and this is the rainy season, rains everyday many inches at a time, very hard to run the car, I've talked to both, great people, I don't remember what my preload is been a while, probably one turn, I'd like to get some Rancho 5000 maybe when it cools down and the rain stops, Cool you got 1.6 first time out,

      Hal SHocks

Cal-Tracks are by far the best traction device for leaf spring cars we have ever used, once you get yourself dialed in with those you may want to consider using thier springs also. The next mod should be a set of Hal shocks all the way around, Once dialed in you'll launch pin straight and head on everytime. "Great Products That Work" and were glad to sell both lines.

They do not help in for lateral deflection. They may cause some roll bind due to the design. The rod ends help, but do not cure that problem.
