      Autocross Ruined My Life

This past weekend the wife and I went to Norwalk (Summit) dragstrip for their Blue Suede Cruise which is a great time. They allow you to do fun runs on the track all day long, as many as you want. So we took the big red Ford out and let her rip. Snore! The wife even mentioned it was boring! Let me put all of this in perspective for you, I grew up with the drag racing/hot rodding bug, my first real drag race was at Norwalk, most of my cars were set up to go fast in a straight line. Brute power and raw acceleration, that's it. My wife grew up the same way, drag racing was the ultimate. Then we went to Goodguys and saw the Autocross, I was fascinated! I had to try it. After a couple of years of setbacks with the car I finally tried it this year at Columbus, with my bride by my side I slid that big red behemoth through the cones and had a ball, she had a ball, I think even the car loved it! I want to do more! The only problem is Ohio is drag racing country, no one "gets" why I would want to take that big ol' car and try to make it turn. Nothing against drag racers, but it ain't that hard to point her in a straight line and mash the throttle. The best part is, pro (amateur, in my case) touring cars are excellent street cars, drag street/strip cars are very limited in their abilities. I'm glad I tried it, and I can't wait to do it again. I just thought I'd share.

      "What is that?"
      "A '59 Ford"
      "A '59 Ford what?"
      "A '59 Ford Car?!?"
"You ain't gonna autocross that thing are you?"
"I didn't buy it to look at it"
