i was kicking around the same idea you are and i decided to go with a wayne due front subframe. i got a killer deal on the C4 subframe but i hear and see his C5 sub is even better which was what i was going to get. i have heard a few bad things about martz's chassis but nothing bad enough to say RUN!!. wayne has a good setup and seeing mine first hand made me happy with my decision.

      Wayne Due

If you haven't looked at Wayne's stuff I would encourage it. Not only is Wayne a great guy to talk to, but his clips are awesome. I hate to cover mine up with paint and sheetmetal! He offers the First Gen clips setup for either C4 or C5 suspension. The original C5 clip had some kinks to work out and they finally have it all re-engineered and its beyone sweet!

Plus rumor has it that he's working on a new clip for the First Gens that will accept all of the OEM suspension components, which means for those that have already spent tons of money on aftermarket arms, spindles etc., you can now bolt all of that up to Wayne's new clip and have one hell of a ride!

What would be the advantage of the new clip? A fatter tire up front?

It has not been answered because this subject has been discussed to death. You will find your answer with a simple search.

I was referring to cpederslie's comment about Wayne Due developing a new crame to accept stock components - not an aftermarket frame in general.

I don't think this has ever been discussed, and I just did a search and didn't find anything. I am no suspension guru, but It doesnt seem like the geometry would be that much improved using stock or tubular arms on a new frame. So... would the purpose just be a fatter tire?

Ok. Thanks guys! I didn't know if it was just for the fatter tires and rack, or some kind of geometry change.

Did you get this yet? Let me give you some info on Martz. The guy is an a$$. Really bad customer service. Hard to get anything out of in the way of a straight answer. I have the chassis, and I have had several problems with it. A-arm hits shock on 1 side. Sway bar hits the crank pulley, Driver side shock brace is ~1/2" more forward than the right, etc.

The wide track sub frame the Martz makes is to allow you to use the modern off-set rim. You won't get a larger diameter tire in there, just allows for the newer offset.

Also the Martz Chassis is not DOT approved for street use.

I'm not defending Martz or anything here, but are any of the aftermarket frames DOT approved? (This is for my own knowledge, I don't know myself) I remember hearing that most if not all of Wilwood's stuff isin't DOT approved because the process would be too long and expensive.

Yes, you can run a wider tire if you use some aftermarket clips, and yes some clips are stonger. Some do both and some do neither

The Fatman chassis is DOT approved. The frame comes with a serial number. Depending on your state's inspection laws, you may not get tags. Fortunately here in Maryland, I can get Street Rod tags, but that limits the amount of driving I can do. Only to and from shows or club events. Friends of mine get pulled over all the time because of these plates, "where you going, where you coming from"... really sucks. Gary never told me, nor does it say on his site that these chassis are not DOT approved.

Another item for you to consider... the Fatman chassis is the only chassis being used on the HotRod 1 limited edition Camaro being build by C.A.R.S.. That says something about the chassis. And really it isn't any more expensive. You can get a cheaper stripped down version from Martz, but if you go apples for apples, they are about the same price.

my experience with fatman products is that they are merely stock replacement parts that only look better than stock. I don't think they do much R+D on improving supsension geometry, just make the stuff look cool

Way to buy into marketing hype. Fatman is about as good as a stock rebuilt frame. The company is not focused on handling pieces what-so-ever. They are a street rod company, making street rod parts. I'd group the Martz/Chris Alston/Fatman frames into one big bundle of mustang 2 based frames that look better than they handle.

I kind of don’t understand what this has to do with anything. You can change subframes all day long in cars. This is not like the Camaro body VIN questions. Unless I misunderstand the context of the answer or the direction of this thread.
