      Am I Crazy.......

Recently acquired a 1959 Ford Galaxie. Originally thought I wanted to go mild traditional custom with it. Lately been questioning that, as I am still suffering from a bite by the pro-touring bug. Wouldn't be a true pro-tourer, probably more resto-modded than anything. No real bolt-on parts available for it though, so would require lots of fab work. Wasted effort? I dunno. What I can see in my head is a combination of early and modern NASCAR or roadracer influence. Front suspension and steering would be interesting though, with that stupid leaky power ram setup. Mustang II or Crown Vic? Shockwaves? 332 bored out to 390 with 390 internals (only because I already have the 390 bits), mild turbo and EZ-EFI. Disks all around, and a 4 link. Already has a 9 inch in the rear. Crazy? Thoughts?

I am unqualified to make any determination on the state of your mental health (most people believe me to be unqualified making a statement about anything.) That said-

      On my cars, I
      1) make it safe
      2) make it fun to drive. Doesn't matter if you call it pro-touring, resto-mod, or pancakes. If it's not turning your crank to drive, it'll languish in a garage.

If you will have more fun with a car that handles good and rides nice, build that. May want to look at a Crown Vic frame swap to get 80% of the bang in one step. (guy on another forum is loading a Volvo 1800 E on the lower half of a Miata uinibody, so we know weird stuff can be done)

I think anything I say will be pointless, though, because it sounds like you've already made your decision.

Well, if you’re not crazy, you aren’t a true gear head.

Do it! The Crown Vic frame swap has been very successful on other off-the-beaten-path projects. It would be easier than a full custom frame or suspension.

It would be so cool and definitely unusual.

We don’t need more Camaros or Mustangs. That’s just my opinion.

Sounds like a really cool and ambitious project! I would love to see it!
