      T56 Mag - Tr6060 - 4l80e

Looking at a tr6060 trans from a ss 2013 camaro. Application: autocross truck (3200 lbs with 3:50 gears). The gear ratio TR6060 for first is 3.01 vs 2.66 for a t56 magnum (magnum is just for comparison). Is that a big difference in gear ratios and would the TR6060 be good for autocross?

      Another question?

It looks like the tr6060 is 146lbs and the clutch/pressure plate etc is 56lbs, totaling 202lbs. Comparing this to a 4l80e with aftermarket converter, weight equals 222. All things being equal (car weight, rear end, engine), is it worth a change from the 4l80e to TR6060 assuming the weights listed are correct (assuming autocross as the application)?

Thanks in advance for your help.

I have a 2012 Camaro SS with the TR6060 and 3.46 gears, it does quite well ratio wise for autocross. I can use second gear for most courses, haven't been on a course slow enough to need to use first. I personally think it would be worth going to either the TR6060 or T56 Magnum, but I do prefer manual transmissions.

BTW, the 2014-15 1LE and Z28 have a close ratio version of the TR6060 which has the 2.66 first gear. Probably not too easy to find one used I would guess though, but it is an option.

Row those gears Hotrod56! Remember that the TR6060 has a divorced shifter from the housing, meaning its all external. The T56 Magnum offer different positions. Either way you go, the Tremec 6 speeds are smooth shifting units.

A couple other things on the TR6060 that I remembered. 1. It has cooling lines on it that run to the radiator, like an automatic, so you will need to hook that up. 2. While the skip shift feature won't be an issue, it does have a reverse lockout, which I would guess is controlled by the computer. Keeps you from accidentally going into reverse while shifting to 5th. Probably a good idea to have it working someway.

With what is involved in swapping in a TR6060 (from what info is out there on the net), it makes more sense to go with a T56.
