      68 Camaro 18x7 fitment problem

      I may be "that Rookie" that may be posting this incorrectly, so my apologies in advance.



      I have a 68 Camaro with a stock sub frame and control arms, but I did add a Flaming River bolt on rack and pinion kit. I am currently running 18x7 Foose Legend wheel with a 225 40R18 tire. It was my intent to drop the front of the car by 2". I initially tried drop spindles, but the inner fenders rested on the tire. So I went back to stock and changed to QA1 coil-overs to adjust the ride height. As near as I can tell the Foose wheels only come with a 4" back spacing. I would like to get the tire pulled in more into the wheel well so I can drop it some more. At the current height, the tire rubs the inner fender. I have read many forums on using the ridetech Tru Turn which allows me to run a 10" wheel with a 5.75" backspace. My car is not a corner carver, just a fun street machine that I take to drive to car shows and cruises.

      So here is my challenge:
      1) I would like to just buy a different set of wheels for the car and re-use my same tires, control arms, and power rack and pinion.
      2) I don't want to pull the wheel in so far that it looks like a drag strip car
      3) I need to figure out the right backspace to work with a 18x7 wheel so there is no chance of rubbing the sub frame when turned lock to lock

      an 18x7 with 4" backspacing "should" fit no problem, you could also adjust your alignment to help the tires fit better (slightly more negative camber).

      What part of the inner fender is it rubbing on? I would assume the outer part closest to the fender lip.... you can modify your inner fender for more clearance?

      I'm with the owl - an 18x7 with 4" BS should fit great even if the car is really low. (Sorry, I know that observation doesn't help your current situation.) Would you mind posting a pic of how low the car is right now? Inner fender mods might be the least expensive and most direct route to where you want to be.

      Prior to my current setup I had boss 338's with 2in drop spindles and 3in drop coils, with the correct camber it was drivable with the inner fenders but would rub on bumps. I believe they were 18x8 with 4.5" backspacing.

      Just another real world example....

      68 Camaro 18x7 fitment problem

      Heidts frame, Boss 338s 18x8 245/35 with no issues at all. In fact, I put a friends 275 up front with no issues at all.
