European magazine? You mean you don't have every PHR issue on that build in chronological order, signed by Stielow and Cameron, all neatly packaged in a presentation case? I thought I knew you..You're not as anal as I gave you credit for being..Scat crank and rods..damn Pro Tour R/T..and you're blasting me with Callies and Eagle..You sound like a intelligent, knowledgeable car guy..but your statement about seizing an engine and slinging a rod beong two totally different things. You show me one engine that seizes, or 99% seizes at over 7,000RPM and 170 mph or so due to oil starvation to the bearings, and doesn't spit the rods out of it, then I'll show you a thousand that did. These rods were so hot that they turned blue..looked like you had a torch on them...Eagle rods made a believer out of me..Indy was amazed it didn't sling a rod too. I didn't use Scat's crank..It was too heavy and Indy doesn't use it..I'll bet they will have it lighter and stronger in the near future though..Don't discount the Chinese..We'll all be buying tons of their stuff in the future. Everyone's technology is going over there and they will be making lots of excellent products in the near future.

Bob...Don't drag me into this... The Mule was a 525hp engine. A Chevy steel crank would have worked. I have a hard time finding my left and right shoes that I took off the night before.

so does Imelda Marcos...don't confuse your rich as* by having 300 pair of shoes..lol..people don't realize you've spent as much modifying the Mule as Stielow spent building it originally..but then it cost us checkwriters a lot more than anyone with some talent of their own. lol

Charlie have you ever seen the 30's Rolls Royce that Al Wiseman in Tarpon Springs, Fla. has..It has one of those big Rolls airplane engines in it. I was at the Leake Auction in Tulsa when he bought it..It fired up in that big old building when they ran it across the block..straight exhaust..wow..what a sound..fit right in that big ol long as* hood too..super quality piece..like those Bentleys that sold at Barrett Jackson in Fla a few weeks back. You should have bought one of those..They were absolutely worth the money.

Completely off subject, what was the top speed of the 55 Charley, before it wants to torque flip? I think that car is so cool, I would end up flipping it cause I could not lift.

I talked to The Real last night..he looks like he'll make Year One Experience. That hillbilly has Eagle Rods in his TT aluminum big block Camaro too. Guess he has no taste like me..he's had good luck with them too.. While discussing the oiling problem with Missle, Steve said the Keith Black block is worse than the Indy block for oil retention in the top end. Learned a long time ago. Opinions are like As* holes. Everybody has em, and most of em stink..I did talk to Rabbit about the TT Viper @ Maxton. He said it was bad as*. Said he had a bad as* Korean girlfriend there too..

Don't take my opinion as badgering, and the eagle stuff very well may be good enough for what you want to do. My thought was that such a high caliber car, where it's apparent no cost was spared, you would spend the extra $500 to bypass the "good enough" for the best there is. And gain the peace of mind when you're running 200+

And yeah the KB block (stock) does retain a bit of oil up top. But that is easily cured by an experienced engine builder. I would rather fix that than have to deal with the horrid porosity i've experienced in the past from Indy products. Having a set of heads weep coolant through the castings and up around the valve springs/rockers etc. is abolutely unacceptable. Maybe they have fixed the quality? maybe eagle has as well. I personally like to use things that I never have to second guess.

And it looks like a couple vipers will be coming to the year one event no they won't be "full on road race cars" but will probably have a nice set of brakes, sticky tires, and a lowly 700ish rwhp. There are a couple cars doing one lap of america. If you can get that magnificent 1hp/ci monster to stay together for 4k miles that would be a fun test bed.

Bob what type of oil scavenge lines were you using and what did you move to ?

As mentioned I"ve been running -12 standard braided line from Summit, most likely Aeroquip or Earl's. I haven't had a problem so far, but I'd like to move to hard line in the new build for space and durability reasons.

So - what did you replace your scavenge lines with to avoid collapse ?

The coolest thing is, I heard through the grapevine that there will be a Viper doing the One Lap that has a twin turbo SBC. Bet it won't sound like a tractor....

I won't have time to get in my 4k miles in before the show.. lol I'll barely have it back together..won't have time to carry it back to redyno it by each cylinder now that we made provisions for pyrometers in each cylinder. I guess you read what kind of rods were originally in the mule that you said Stielow wouldn't dare have a lowly rod like a Eagle in...And he also had a scat crank in it. This engine was Indy's design. As I've said, they have good luck with the Eagle Rods. I can't complain about them since they held on with no oil to the bearings. I've got friends that have had good luck with them too. No need in spending more money if the product serves your purpose. You going to be there..or just sending big brother over..700+ rear wheel hp is all anyone can use on that track..

Earls had furnished nylon covered lines..We had Earls change everything to braided stainless..same sizes as before..added the suction line in the intake valley to evacuate the oil from there..added 2 more qts capacity..that nylon was way too soft..maybe it wasn't the problem, but I'm not going to risk it. I want to get my 4K miles in before those rods turn loose and the coolant starts weeping out of the block and heads..lol
