I was thinking the same thing. I have not been in a Mercedes, but have been in a car lately that ASR really meant "slowing tire spin". I doubt you will have 1400 horses at a full head of steam and find a traction control wanting to do much briddling. May imped the spin but no way it is going to stop it. It is hard to "control" those turbos.....

I just don't understand the mind set of one wanting to accelerate, decelerate,go around a curve with anymore weight than is absolutely necessary..Was it his fathers Caddy? Get his first piece in one? I see those guys in that Hot Rod Magazine fastest street car shootout trying to compete with a 3800#Chevelle,and wildly enough, he won one and was also competitive last year, and even wilder trying it with a big as* Impala..give me the Datson or something light. I have a 72 240 Z with a ZZ4,,6 speed Vette trans, and Dana 44 Vette rear..it goes like stink, flies around curves, doesn't break parts and is a blast to drive, and looks cool with the G Nose front..

That's a reasonable question. It comes down to the intent of the hobby: is one trying to get the best possible times? Or is one trying to do the best with a certain car or car-type?

If Jeff brings his Ultima, that car will likely destroy the rest of us: it weighs 2200 lbs (I think) makes 500+ hp and has huge rubber and brakes. It seems closer to an Indy car than a street car. No doubt it will put down the best lap times of any of the cars I know about. It's an awesome car with performance in line with its looks and underlying engineering.

I want him to bring the Caddy, because it performs way better than it should, and I think that's cooler, somehow. Katz has a 65 Buick that has the same effect on me. Maybe that's just me.

maybe he likes being on both ends of the spectrum..lightweight and super heavyweight champ..different strokes..what makes the world go round..was he the guy with the 77 Coupe de Ville in the magazines with an Olds motor a few years ago? Tell him not to bring it..if he kicked my Cuda's ass, I'd have to commit Hari Kari with a dull sword

Yes, except it's an 82 Fleetwood and uses a Caddy (500 ci) motor. As far as I remember, it has always had a Caddy motor. Here's a link.

Help me here everyone, I know we have a lot that go to track days fairly regularly on the west coast. I just fear the event being on the east coast.
Wow thanks for the props Bill. I really appreciate that as a compliment. I think you should take back what you said about yourself. I dont think anyone thinks your a poser. You have an incredible car AND you drive it. Thats something to be extremely proud of despite what anyone sais.
Yes I drive the heck out of mine, race it, beat the heck out of it but I could only dream of having one as nice as yours. When you quit driving it you will be a poser.

Uhh...yeah. Like I said school's in. That land yacht (Cadillac Attack) won Real Street Eliminator a few years back. From what I heard it's a real blast to watch that car negotiate turns and cones. Land Ho! Comin About!! It was pretty much built as a smack in the face to the rest of us pony car types and it lives up to that ideal. Spend some time at Jeff's website Jeff's shop and you'll see that Jeff has a knack for turning alternative platforms into quality rides.
Jeff also did most of the work on Poison Dart which is another excellent candidate for the Hot Rod challenge. Imagine Motorsports PAID to sponsor Power Tour last year and still, Poison Dart did not get any love in Hot Rod. Poison Dart can be categorized as too "over-the-top" or too pretty to run hard. But I spent a bunch of time with Rich Weiss at SEMA. He's a cool dude who is itchin for the opportunity to beat on his ride now that the show circuit crap is over. If it get's scuffed, he'll just fix it. It's only money.

So I guess the lesson here, Bob, is that while you own the coolest Pro-Touring car of all time (in my opinion), it may very well get spanked at the challenge by much more ordinary cars that have already been sorted out. And that's okay. At best, you should expect to use the challenge to dial in your chassis. If you're going there to kick ass, you'd better hit another track or two first.

The Dart is really bitchin. Honestly over the last few months the most interesting cars Ive seen in the mags and the net have not been Camaros. PHR has had a string of very interesting Mustangs over the last few months, the poision dart, Castellana's Chevelle etc.

If I make the event, I'm nearly certain to be tightening the last few bolts waiting in line to start. I'll be there to have some tuning fun.

Here's the Lateral Dynamics car. Based out of the San Diego area. It still has most of its stock floorpan, so it's not as radical as the full chassis/chanelled body cars that seem to be taking over the top ranks. But that doesn't mean it's any less capable. PLUS this car has tape on the headlights, so it MUST be fast. Until I see otherwise, I will maintain that well built unibody/rollcage cars are just as grippy. Here the rest of the pix of Mark's car.

Mark just quit the high paying day job as a rocket scientist to pursue his dream with Lateral Dynamics. It's first product is a killer 3 link rear suspension for muscle cars. I'm sure he's up to his ass in new company blues, so he may not make the Challenge. But I hope he does. It would be a great way to promote his business.

And here's one of my current favorites. Part street rod/part street fighter. He doesn't have any room for a clutch pedal, so Chris will be using one of my paddle shifters with a 4L80E. Paints custom Harley's for a living in Oregon. Looks rough, but Chris works fast.

You will have to keep us updated on that 32. Its going to be a mean ride for sure. At only 2100lbs it wouldnt take much at all to make you crap yourself on a track. Serious G's there.

Yup. Flat black. Beautiful in it's own mean and nasty way. Primer means it'll get done even sooner. Oh, and I wasn't clear. It's a pickup. Sectioned and chanelled on custom 2x3 .120 rails (no wussy duece rails) with a 1-5/8 cage and custom fabb'd suspension arms.
