running cold?

Hi! I have a vortec swap on my 69 firebird the thermostat is the stock 197* but my car runs at 160-170 and the fans are on anybody know why? Thank you!

Where is your gauge sender? Are you reading temp from the ECU?
How are your fans wired?

Can you tell me how the fan should be wired? The sender is in the back of the block and goes to the gauge?

Many ways to do it. Can be wired thru the computer or thru sending units.
Back of the block is unlikely, it's probably on the cylinder head.
Did you do the swap yourself? Many miles on it?

Thank you for answering. Yes i meant at the passenger head toward the back. I didnt do it myself but the mechanic says it runs cold but how can that be? The ecu if the 4 wire hookup so all is hooked up to senders

If the fans run it's cold then they can be grounding out. If they run only above 150-160 then the sending units are too cold.. There are many different temps available. Dakota Digital has a $100 fan controller that works nice, it can be set to whatever temp you need.

The only way an engine can run that cold is the thermostat opens earlier than advertised.. And the fans compound the problem.
