Project 71 Comet GT

This will be an everyday driver, nothing too crazy. Picked it up for $750 about 30 miles from home in November of 2010. Originally a straight 6, c4, grabber blue car with floor shifter and buckets. Photos below of it at the previous owners house.

Those seat covers look like they are alive! What's the basic plan?

I think I've seen them move a couple times. Plan is a street/strip/pro touring car if that's possible.

Front has a TCP coilover set up with double adjustables.


I'm using an early mustang kit since TCP didn't make one back then. Sat too high so I took a little off the upper mount.


Cut the upper mount and re-drilled. Sits good enough now.

Car was stripped using a 3m paint removal wheel and chemicals. After many hours of blocking and light filler work it just needs wet sanding with 800 and to be taking apart for shooting of grabber blue.

Matrix basecoat with an SPI clear when it's ready.

Nice start. With the TCP upper A arm, do you think the top of the ball joint would fit inside an 18" rim. My rim hits the top of the factory ball joint. I have been asking around but no one knows for sure the ball joint will clear. TCP started their ball joint is 1/4" lower than factory. I would hate to by something and it doesn't solve my problem.

It would depend on the wheels backspacing. I'm running 17x8 with 4 1/2 backspacing with no issues.

Ok Thank you. I have 17x8 with 4 1/2 backspacing also. I also have a set with 18x9F and 18x12R. The rears are perfect. The fronts have 5 1/2 inches of backspacing though.
