Power steering cooler and engine oil cooler sizing

I am in the process of adding a power steering cooler and oil cooler to my 01 Camaro. I autocross and track this car, but I also drive it on the street. I am fabing a horizontal mount behind the radiator for the oil and power steering cooler. When I am street driving the car I plan on blocking off the oil cooler and power steering cooler. Everything I have read states without a thermostat is hard to keep the temps where they need to be. This is why I am mounting the horizontally behind the radiator so I will be able to block them off. The question I have is what size cooler will I need? I am in the south and in the summer time is very hot. I will be racing in 95 degree weather for 20 min session.

A stock c6-z06 cooler and lines works really good, (and is cheap if you find a used one) I can take some measurments on it tomorrow for comparison. if the lines are too long for your use it is asy to change to the coolor to AN fittings. I have vinyl wrap with velcro I leave on except for the hotest days or if I am at the track/autox.

For the power steering cooler there are lots of options. I used a finned extruded aluminum transmission cooler, but there are lots of small fin-type coolers available, more than likely look at how much room you have left.

Thanks for the zo6 cooler option. If you have time tomorrow and can measure it for me that would be great. Do you know what oil temps you run on the street with the vinyl over the cooler? That is what I was kind of figuring on the power steering. What ever space is left fit it in there.

Without the cover it taies forever to get even 180+ temp on the street. With the cover it seems to run 160-200 depending on the outside temp and if I am rolling along vs in traffic. This time of year it still runs cooler though, but that is by memory, it hasnt been out for a few months.

The cover I have is in two halves, so partial blocked works well for street use when it is really warm out. Mine is mounted in front of the radiator with really good airflow. The Ps cooler is behind the radiator but seems to work ok.

I think it is around 15" but I will double check. It might not be until tomorrow though.

You might also want to look at Improved Racings Oil cooler thermostats. This way you don't have to worry about the cooler over cooling the fluid in the winter months. I just put one on my LS3 and it is a pretty nice piece.

12" long cooler for the power steering seems to work good. Just hard to get a picture of!

Thanks for the pic. I am fabing up my mount today to see how much room I have. Then I am going to mount in my oil cooler and the left over room I will mount a Ps cooler.
