I'm working on a quadcopter for aerial video of track events.

Took it out for my first outdoors practice today. Since I haven't been feeling well enough to drive, I figure I might as well get into a hobby that allows me to fly

Its a gaui 330x. I'll be using a 3 axis gimbal to keep the camera stable with a computer. I'm hoping to have 20 minute flight times with 5000mah 3s batteries.

Ralphie finally realized its not an evil robot out to get him.

Eventually I'd like to play a bit with systems to see if I can get it to chase a car at a certain height and have a friend in the car manually operate the gimbals. I can even tell the quadcopters battery life so I know when I need to fly back.

Would be real fun at some automotive events.

Wow, thats neat!! ..the guy we bought the duster from had a hobby in nitro helicopters, he said he makes some good money on the side by strapping some hd video cameras on em and filming the overhead arial 'flyby views' for subdivision/ community development commercials down here. Good luck, looks like a lot of fun!

There is the ARdrone for the Iphone. I saw a multiple rotor copter somewhere on youtube but can no longer find it. Think the guy was in Germany.

check this out. Amazing flying. All done with a camera, transmitter, and the operator has the ability to control the camera by turning his head wearing a special set of glasses.

Another neat one with dolphins and surfers.

That is a coooooool toy! The video of the stream bed is unbelievable! First I'd like to say that I know nothing about the quad-copter; but if it's like most electronic gadgets its supposed to accept any electronic interference that could cause undesirable results. That said, could a high powered electronic ignition, (or computer etc.) cause you to crash this pup and accidently destroy it? Just a thought about keeping this toy together. Best of luck-video of a car going through a course would be wicked!

What kind of speed can you get out of the quad-copter? Can it keep up with the cars? Looks like you could get some good video when it is in close.

You know what would be wicked. To have the copter parked on your roof. And as you took of down the track the copter would take flight with your car. Some how keeping up with you and the faster you went the higher it would go to film the route you were at. As you would slow down so would the copter. Not sure if I'm writing it as I see it. You know, starting line copter on roof. take off it takes off. End of race as you slow down so does the copter till is lands as you come to a full stop. Future of car and speed trap, It would warn you of speed traps ahead. Shis I got to get to the drawing board.

i was going to build something similar for my boat to record wakeboarders. ultimately i sold my quad as i realized how dangerous the idea was and the learning curve to fly these things is pretty expensive. In theory, you could build a rf based gps dongle that sent your coordinates to the quad or a computer with telemetry software, then it could just update the 'way points' as you drove

Very cool! I have been wanting to do this for some time. Just last week I started doing some research to find one that would show me the video live while it's shooting.

They have all kinds of brands now for these, they have come a long way in the past few years. I was big into nitro 1/10 scale road racing for a while so figured I could pick this up easy. The shots these heli's capture are amazing!

I'm considering a DJI Phantom 2 Vision. It's expensive but very sleek and one of the simplest ways to take photos / video and fly FPV. 25 minutes on a single charge!

I saw this demoed locally. With ipad control, they flew it out the door & down the mall & back. The shielded fans make it safer if it hits someone.
