      Subframe Connector Installation

Didn't know quite what category to post this in, so here goes anyways...

In putting my '68 Camaro together, I'm hesitant to weld in my subframe (DSE) connectors without the engine, trans, and stuff in the car, in case the weight might change the dimensions slightly. Am I being too anal?

make sure the car is on the suspension , can be on jack stands but definitly like it was on the ground.

You are being too anal. As long as you make sure that your subframe is square to the body and straight. It would be better not to have the motor or trans in as it will not have any flex in it. That is just the reason why you are putting in the SFCs to prevent flex.

He's right, just be sure to support it well and don't move anything till the connecters are fully welded.

Oh and Brian I wasn't going to say anything but the "Monk" in my brain can't seem to ignore it. Its guaranties... or was that an inside joke? Might want to add "#2 problem in America-illiteracy". again j/k B, ; )

      Vince,

When I wrote it it did not look correct so I did a spell check on ms word and that is what it came up with. It still did not look right so I let it be to see how long it took someone to point it out and kill me. It has been a few weeks since I change it so one drink on me at SEMA for you. Not a "Monk" moment from me, but it is guarantees.

They are actually both correct. I'm pretty sure guaranties denotes multiple guarantees. As in "We were granted guaranties from several companies, but they all failed to meet the deadline." Where as guarantees would be used in a sentence such as "There are no guarantees in life."

In Brian's sentence, I think Vince is right in that the guaranties spelling would be used. I may be wrong though.

Hey, what the...did I stumble onto english101.com or something?

edit: You also need to use an apostrophe (sp) for America since it is a possessive. "America's only guaranties."

'Guarantees' seems more correct to me, but it looks like Merriam-Webster considers both 'guarantee' and 'guaranty' to be forms of each other, so either should be right.

"Life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness." is a sentence fragment which confuses the meaning of the sig line; better to rewrite the sentence as "America only guarantees life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness; the rest is up to you".

Alternately, you could change it to "Life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness: America's only guarantees. The rest is up to you."

We now return you to what hopefully is a discussion of weld-in subframe connectors. Language discussion should be confined to the appropriate language-specific forum, which we don't have.

I think you shouldve put a hyphen where the first period is, too, Brian.
I agree with Brian...I would weld them in WITHOUT the drivetrain installed.

WTF, this has turned into inglesh101. However it is good to know. I am surprised it took as long as it did for someone to call me on it. I guess since I am leaving my job to go back to school in December I should get this all worked out.

BTW, sorry for the hijack Johnjan.
